About the Role

MongoDB Technical Services Engineers leverage outstanding problem-solving and customer service skills, combined with deep technical experience, to advise customers and resolve complex MongoDB issues. You will specialize in the entire MongoDB ecosystem, including the database server, drivers, management suite, and services like Cloud Manager. This role requires passion, initiative, teamwork, and a great sense of humor to achieve exceptional results for customers.

What You'll Do

  • Work alongside major customers to solve complex issues related to architecture, performance, recovery, and security.
  • Serve as an expert resource on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale.
  • Act as an advocate for customer needs, collaborating with product management and development teams.
  • Contribute to internal projects, including developing support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics.
  • Enable peers by sharing newly acquired technical knowledge through informal conversations, training, and workshops.
  • Document solutions in the knowledge platform to increase efficiency for customers, team members, and other departments.

What You Need

  • 4+ years of proven experience. Self-taught, insatiably curious, and multi-faceted candidates are encouraged.
  • Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting experience, with a holistic analytical approach from application tier to database to storage.
  • Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read code and basic coding/scripting ability in one or more languages (e.g., Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Node.js, Go).
  • Good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
  • Storage engineering experience, including NAS, RAID, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
  • Experience supporting complex mission-critical product applications and database systems (RDBMS or non-relational).
  • Genuine desire to help people, ability to think on your feet, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Desire and ability to rapidly learn new technical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate and seek help from team members.

Bonus Points

  • Fluency in conveying technical discussions in Mandarin.
  • Experience with authentication systems (e.g., LDAP, Kerberos, AD).
  • Experience using or managing MongoDB.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Experience with cloud services stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems using vendor-specific Enterprise operators.

Success Measures

  • In 3 months: Gain a deep understanding of MongoDB and its ecosystem; complete New Hire Training.
  • In 6 months: Work comfortably on the frontline with customers; complete the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
  • In 12 months: Become part of a technical experts group, assist peer engineers with advanced diagnostics, and handle technical escalations independently.

Work Environment

  • Based in Sydney or Melbourne offices.
  • Standard work week post-ramping: Sunday to Thursday, every week.
