✨ AI Insights & Summary
Think3DDD, a Berlin-based startup, offers an exciting internship opportunity for students passionate about merging CAD design with FDM 3D printing in the medical technology sector. This role provides hands-on experience in creating patient-specific orthopedic aids, from digital design to physical realization. It's a unique chance to contribute to innovative, sustainable healthcare solutions within a dynamic startup environment.
About Think3DDD
Are you looking for a mandatory internship or semester project where you can meaningfully combine CAD design and FDM 3D printing?
Do you want to design custom-fit components with modern, cost-effective CAD tools – and bring them to life directly on an FDM printer?
Then Think3DDD is the right place for you!
We are a multi-award-winning startup from Berlin-Adlershof, developing digital solutions in the fields of 3D scanning, 3D printing, and medical technology.
Our goal is to transform complex manufacturing processes into intuitive, sustainable, and patient-specific products – for users in medicine and orthopedic technology.
To strengthen our team, we are looking for engaged interns in the field of CAD Design & FDM 3D Printing who are eager to work on real products and actively shape the entire process from the digital model to the finished component.
Responsibilities
- CAD Design & Modeling: Design, adapt, and further develop 3D models for orthopedic aids and test components using accessible CAD tools (e.g., Fusion 360, Tinkercad, Blender).
- Parametric & Generative Design: Develop customizable, patient-specific models based on 3D scan data or measurements.
- FDM 3D Printing – Slicing & Process Optimization: Prepare print files using slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer), select appropriate print parameters, and choose materials (PLA, PETG, TPU, bio-based filaments).
- Quality Assurance & Post-Processing: Inspect print results for dimensional accuracy, strength, and fit.
- Printer Operation & Maintenance: Assist with the operation and maintenance of our FDM printer fleet.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate closely with software development, orthopedic technicians, and product development to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
Qualifications
- Enrolled student in a relevant field of study, e.g.:
- Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Technology, Medical Technology
- Industrial Design, Product Design, Technical Design
- Or a comparable field with a focus on CAD, design, or manufacturing technology
- First experience with CAD software – e.g., Fusion 360, Meshmixer, Tinkercad, or Blender (experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, etc., also welcome).
- Basic understanding of FDM 3D printing (print parameters, materials, support structures, slicing).
- Interest in parametric or generative design.
- Meticulous, structured work approach and technical understanding.
- Team spirit, initiative, and eagerness to learn.
- Good German or English language skills.
- Important: Perfect skills are not a must – motivation, willingness to learn, and a good sense for dimensions and function count more.
Benefits
- Hands-on Experience: Work on real components and products with a direct impact on medical technology.
- Creative Freedom: Contribute your own ideas for CAD designs, printing strategies, or material experiments.
- Startup Culture: Flat hierarchies, short decision-making processes, and space for ideas.
- Top Location: Berlin-Adlershof – a technology park and research environment.
- Flexible Working Hours & Home Office Option.
- Meaning & Impact: Work on products that make healthcare more sustainable.
- Networking: Connect with orthopedic technicians, research institutions, and MedTech partners.
We look forward to hearing from motivated, technically interested individuals who want to experience CAD design and FDM 3D printing in a meaningful medical context – and actively shape something that resonates with people.
Whether student or diverse – we value commitment, technical intuition, and the joy of being involved from design to finished print.
Note: This internship is an unpaid mandatory internship. It is intended for students who need to complete a mandatory internship or wish to complete their Bachelor's or Master's thesis in a practical startup environment.
For this, we offer:
- Real insights into CAD workflows, FDM manufacturing, and sustainable materials,
- Technical supervision & feedback,
- And the opportunity to actively shape products from the digital model to the finished component.
If you're excited about working with Fusion 360, Meshmixer, and FDM 3D printing on products that support orthopedic technicians in their daily work, we look forward to your application!
