About the Role
As a Data Scientist, you will collaborate closely with Product, Business, Data, and Engineering teams to enhance decision-making and improve member experiences. Your responsibilities will span from analyzing member behavior and evaluating experiments to developing sophisticated recommendation and predictive models that optimize marketplace performance. This is a hands-on role with substantial ownership, where you will manage projects from initial scoping through implementation, measurement, and iteration, working directly with stakeholders to define and solve business challenges.
Your First Year:
- Deliver Measurable Business Impact: Own 1-2 end-to-end data science projects, from problem framing and analysis to implementation, measurement, and iteration.
- Solve Business Problems with Data: Apply analytics, experimentation, and machine learning where appropriate, prioritizing simpler solutions when effective.
- Enhance Personalization & Recommendation Systems: Contribute to improving how products and experiences are matched to members throughout their lifecycle.
- Partner with Stakeholders: Collaborate with Product, Business, Data, and Engineering teams to translate business questions into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Scale Team Capabilities: Develop reusable datasets, features, documentation, and processes to streamline the creation and maintenance of data products.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience applying data science, analytics, and machine learning to solve real-world business problems.
- Ability to break down ambiguous business questions, identify relevant data, and propose practical solutions.
- Experience building and evaluating predictive models, including feature engineering, model validation, and addressing challenges like class imbalance, leakage, and data quality.
- Proficiency in experimentation and A/B testing.
- Strong Python and SQL skills for data science tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining insights and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Experience with BI tools like Looker for analysis and reporting.
- Experience in consumer technology, fintech, marketplaces, or growth-focused product environments.

Compensation
- The budgeted annual salary range for this role is $80,000 – $130,000 CAD, based on relevant experience and skills.
