QA Manager - AI Startup (m/f/d)

About Oxolo

Oxolo is an AI startup from Hamburg developing modern AI software designed to make daily work processes smarter, faster, and easier for businesses. Our new AI solution specifically targets the construction industry, including architectural firms, trade businesses, construction companies, and other players along the construction value chain.

Our ambition is to build AI solutions that deliver measurable value in real work environments: reducing manual labor, improving preparation, accelerating communication, and providing clearer decision-making foundations for teams managing projects, documents, offers, meetings, and operational workflows.

About the Role

To ensure our AI solutions function seamlessly in the hands of real people on real construction sites, we need more than just great features. We need someone to critically examine them, ensure their reliability, and think ahead. This is where you come in.

As a QA Manager, you will build the testing foundation for Oxolo's web and mobile products, working closely with the development team, the product, and with real construction site processes in mind.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Starts at the Beginning: Develop test cases and test plans not only based on design specs but also considering real-world use cases from the field and industry-specific edge cases. You will become intimately familiar with the product.
  • Testing as an Active Part of Development: Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams throughout the entire development cycle, identify issues early, and write clear bug reports to accelerate fixes.
  • Ownership of the Release Gate: Ensure that releases meet the defined quality and robustness criteria on Web, iOS, and Android before they are delivered.

This role is intentionally designed as an entry point into a growing QA function. You will start with a clear core area: building test coverage, working closely with the development cycle, and securing releases. The future evolution of this role depends on your contributions.

Qualifications

Must-have:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in QA / Software Testing, ideally in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • Native German speaker (C2 level). This is essential for working with our DACH customer base, German construction documentation, and German construction vocabulary.
  • Proven ability to create test plans and test cases methodically and reproducibly.
  • Experience testing on Mobile (iOS and/or Android) and Web, and ensuring cross-platform parity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills; ability to work closely with engineers and PMs.
  • Independent and proactive: capable of organizing your testing activities with minimal oversight.
  • Proficient English (written and spoken).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with software for the DACH construction industry (or related field service/construction site tools), especially understanding how German-speaking construction teams actually work on-site.
  • Experience building QA from scratch or scaling it in a startup or scale-up environment.
  • Experience defining release/smoke test checklists and regression suites.
  • Experience with AI/LLM-driven features and testing non-deterministic output.
  • Familiarity with issue trackers (we use Linear), test management tools, and QA process automation.
  • Knowledge of compliance, data protection, and consent-sensitive features (GDPR, TÜV, SOC II Type 2) and audit-proof testing.

Benefits

  • A key role in a Hamburg-based AI startup with significant growth potential.
  • The opportunity to build the QA foundation for a new AI solution for the architecture, trade, and construction industries from the ground up.
  • Hybrid work model with a flexible combination of office time in Hamburg and remote work.
  • Open, transparent communication and short decision-making paths.
  • Significant autonomy, direct visibility of your work, and space for your own ideas.
  • An ambitious team that works pragmatically and collaboratively to bring a strong product to market.

At Oxolo, you won't work within rigid structures but in an environment where speed, clarity, and personal responsibility are paramount. You will have direct influence on how we define, test, and ensure quality – from the ground up.

If you are eager to build the quality foundation for an AI product that is transforming a large, practical, and still largely undigitalized industry, and to take on real responsibility in a transparent startup environment, we look forward to receiving your application.
