About the Role

- Reporting to: VP of Engineering
- Compensation: $140,000 to $178,000 per year for US-based applicants. Adjusted contingent on location for applicants based in Canada, LATAM, and Europe.
CodePath's learning platform is central to our educational programs, covering admissions, course delivery, grading, career coaching, and reporting. A dedicated, small engineering team manages this platform. As we scale to serve more learners, we require an Engineering Project and QA Manager to ensure our development work remains organized, thoroughly tested, and consistently progressing. This role involves close collaboration with engineers on a day-to-day basis, focusing on project organization, quality assurance, bug management, and facilitating communication between engineering, product, and internal user teams.
Key Activities
- Maintain organization and momentum for engineering projects by tracking progress, identifying blockers, and clarifying next steps for the team.
- Take ownership of quality assurance by testing developed features, utilizing AI for automating repetitive tasks, and implementing Capybara tests where beneficial.
- Manage the bug pipeline, including reproducing issues, prioritizing fixes, assigning them to the appropriate engineers, and verifying resolutions.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact between the engineering team, the product team, and internal teams utilizing our tools.
- Collaborate on determining the appropriate level of process and rituals to implement, carefully considering their potential costs and friction.
- Provide regular status updates to ensure the team and leadership are informed of project progress.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a project management, delivery, or QA role, preferably within a small engineering team.
- Technical aptitude sufficient for close collaboration with engineers, including the ability to reproduce bugs, interpret stack traces, and write test cases for automated fixes.
- Hands-on QA experience, with proven ownership of testing processes and bug pipelines (manual or automated).
- Proficiency in using AI tools to automate previously manual tasks.
- Sound judgment regarding process implementation ā knowing when to add structure and when to keep things lean.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Comfort with ambiguity and small-team dynamics; experience working effectively without heavy process overhead.
- A passion for education and a strong desire to make a positive impact.
Nice to Haves
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or Django codebases.
- Experience with Capybara, RSpec, or comparable testing tools.
- Experience working with product managers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Prior experience as the first project manager or QA hire on a team.
Compensation
CodePath offers standardized salaries based on position level, irrespective of location. For this role, the annual salary ranges from $140,000 to $178,000 for US-based applicants. Compensation will be adjusted based on location for candidates in Canada, LATAM, and Europe. Salary is determined by relevant experience and skills assessed during the interview process.
