About the Team

The compliance function at OKX is responsible for the overall compliance culture at the company. We are a team of risk-minded problem solvers, advising the business on regulatory obligations and enterprise risks.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Head of Compliance of OKCoin Europe (Malta), you will lead and build a growing team, enhance key aspects of our compliance program, and monitor local developments. This role requires strong leadership and sound technical competencies to handle complex matters and collaborate with colleagues at all levels. You will report directly to the Head of Compliance EMEA, with matrix reporting to local management as necessary.

  • Lead the OKCoin Europe (Malta) compliance team, providing strategic direction, training, and advisory support to business partners/stakeholders regarding compliance in an evolving regulatory environment.
  • Develop and maintain robust compliance policies, procedures, controls, and frameworks.
  • Engage cross-functionally (Data, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Product, Risk) to implement an effective compliance management program aligned with global standards and best practices.
  • Monitor and assess compliance with Maltese/EU laws, regulations, and policies, particularly those pertaining to compliance.
  • Oversee annual, periodic, and on-demand compliance reviews and investigations, including monitoring program reviews, policy updates, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in Board committee and sub-committee meetings as a member or as needed.
  • Conduct and oversee the company training schedule.
  • Liaise with other second and third-line teams to ensure a sufficient control environment compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for business team members on compliance issues and provide advice.
  • Oversee compliance reviews and investigations.
  • Prepare compliance reports for management, the board, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

What We Look For in You

  • 10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance within financial services, payments companies (e.g., EMI and e-money), fintech, or cryptocurrency sectors.
  • Experience leading and overseeing an effective compliance management program aligned with Malta/EU standards, with awareness of local and international best practices.
  • Strong leadership experience, including engaging with senior business stakeholders.
  • Good people management skills.
  • Previous experience holding a regulated compliance approved person role (e.g., SMF16 or equivalent) in a banking, payments, or crypto firm, or demonstrable sufficient experience in senior compliance roles with corresponding responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge and experience developing compliance policies to ensure compliance with EU financial regulations (e.g., MiFID, MiCA, GDPR).
  • Proven ability to work within and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, critical thinker, adept at working independently and in a dispersed team environment across varied tasks.
  • Intuitive, highly ethical, and comfortable questioning and challenging.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the crypto industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
