The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional lawyer to join our dynamic legal team and lead legal initiatives across our AI models and the products built upon them. This role is perfect for a builder who thrives at the nexus of law and model development, possesses sharp judgment, and is fluent in product strategy. You will partner with our research, data, and product teams, tackling novel legal questions in model development and advising on user-facing experiences. You'll help Deepgram maintain its rapid pace while navigating international AI legal frameworks. This is an opportunity to define answers to unsettled legal questions, design scalable frameworks, and cement Deepgram's leadership in voice AI.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary legal counsel for data and research teams, addressing legal aspects of model development and creating frameworks for rapid, confident research progress.
- Partner with product teams to launch user-centric products and features.
- Draft and review consumer-facing terms, policies, disclosures, and marketing materials.
- Enhance our privacy program, communicating its value to customers to build trust.
- Stay abreast of international AI legal frameworks, translating developments into actionable principles and policies, and shaping Deepgram's responsible AI perspective.
- Develop deep expertise in current AI legal issues and contribute to the discourse within the company and the broader field.
- Build an AI-native legal function with scalable workflows and systems to amplify the team's impact.

It’s Important To Us That You Have
- A JD from a U.S. accredited law school and 7-15 years of legal practice experience (in-house, firm, or both).
- Demonstrated experience advising product, research, or engineering teams on AI development and deployment legalities.
- Fluency in critical areas: privacy, IP, data licensing, consumer protection, and the international AI regulatory landscape. Depth in some areas is expected, with a willingness to learn others.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and providing clear, actionable advice.
- Experience in AI-native legal practice, with built-in workflows.
- Exceptional writing skills: precise, clear, and compelling.
It Would Be Great If You Had
- Hands-on experience at a foundation model company or AI research lab.
- In-depth knowledge of emerging AI regulatory regimes (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. state laws, UK, APAC).
