About the Role

As the Product Manager for the Newsela Supplemental ELA product line, you will own the entire product lifecycle. This includes everything from identifying market opportunities and ideation through development, market launch, and post-launch enhancements based on user feedback. Your primary goal will be to ensure ELA products align with Newsela's strategic objectives, drive strong instructional outcomes, and meet all budget, timeline, and quality constraints.

What You’ll Be Doing

Product Strategy

  • Market Expertise: Act as the subject matter expert on market trends, customer needs, competitive landscape, and emerging instructional practices to identify opportunities for product growth and differentiation.
  • Strategic Planning: Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define and execute the Supplemental ELA strategy, assessing risks and recommending product investments.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize qualitative and quantitative data, including customer interviews and analytics, to inform product direction and improvements.
  • Performance Monitoring: Define success metrics (adoption, engagement, retention, outcomes, business impact) and monitor product performance, using insights for future roadmap decisions.

Roadmap Development

  • Prioritization: Collaborate with Content, Product Marketing, and other stakeholders to prioritize content and instructional design roadmaps, state standards updates, and new product opportunities, aligning with customer needs, adoption timelines, and business objectives.
  • Platform Advocacy: Partner with content and platform product teams to prioritize and advocate for subject-specific platform enhancements.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgets and financial forecasts for subject-specific projects.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Execution

  • Pedagogical Alignment: Work closely with internal instructional experts to ensure solutions are pedagogically sound.
  • Project Leadership: Lead cross-functional execution of the ELA roadmap and special projects, monitoring progress and mitigating risks with Product Operations.
  • Market Launch: Contribute to product launch strategies and ongoing support with Sales and Marketing to drive marketplace success.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Drive alignment and influence decision-making across stakeholders by clearly communicating strategy, priorities, and progress.
  • Platform Integration: Partner with Supplemental and Platform product management to ensure products leverage platform design and functionality effectively.
  • Customer Engagement: Manage relationships with PD and Customer Success teams to support customer needs and foster empathy within the curriculum team.
  • Consultative Support: Provide consultative support to customers and field-facing staff as needed.
  • Team Mentorship: Provide mentorship and coaching to less experienced team members, with potential for supervision.

About You

  • 5-7 years of product management experience in K-12 education, with specific experience in edtech and a deep understanding of the ELA market.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full lifecycle of digital educational products or features.
  • Proven experience partnering with and leading cross-functional teams (content, product, marketing, sales).
  • Experience developing business cases for product portfolio expansion, including market analysis, competitive positioning, and strategic alignment.
  • Experience engaging with K-12 administrators, teachers, and students to gather feedback and ensure product-market fit.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to drive decision-making in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills for evaluating product performance and making data-driven decisions.
  • Familiarity with K-12 ELA instructional trends and practices (e.g., Science of Reading, Knowledge-building curricula, MTSS, ELD).
  • Strong understanding of budget management, financial forecasting, and analysis.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (Jira, Asana, Trello).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

Base Compensation Range: $110,000—$127,000 USD
