Your New Role

As our Interconnection Expert, you will be a key advisor to developers, utilities, and other stakeholders involved in the large load or generator interconnection process within major ISO/RTO markets. You will bridge regulatory fluency with technical depth, enabling clients to anticipate challenges, interpret study results, and successfully navigate the interconnection queue to project completion. This role spans multiple ISOs (e.g., ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO) and project types, including offshore wind, large-scale solar PV, and battery storage, requiring a confident command of both regulatory processes and power systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead advisor for generator interconnection strategy for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and storage clients across multiple ISO/RTO markets.
  • Interpret ISO/RTO tariffs, interconnection procedures, and queue reform developments, translating complex regulations into actionable client guidance.
  • Critically review and evaluate interconnection feasibility studies, system impact studies, and facility studies, identifying issues and devising response strategies.
  • Coordinate and manage information flow between clients, ISOs, and transmission owners throughout the interconnection queue process.
  • Support clients during interconnection agreement negotiations and LGIA/SGIA execution, utilizing both technical and commercial acumen.
  • Monitor evolving FERC policy and ISO/RTO rule changes, including Order 2023 implementation, and advise clients on portfolio implications.
  • Collaborate with internal power systems engineers on interconnection-related modeling, load flow, and short circuit analysis to validate technical positions.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals and client presentations, establishing yourself as a visible Ramboll subject matter expert.
  • Mentor junior staff in developing expertise in interconnection processes and regulatory affairs.

About You (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Policy, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience with ISO/RTO generator interconnection processes, demonstrating knowledge of queue procedures, study methodologies, and milestone requirements in at least one major market.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply ISO tariffs, interconnection procedures, and FERC orders in a client advisory capacity.
  • Sufficient technical literacy in power systems to critically review interconnection study results, engage credibly with utility transmission planners, and collaborate with engineering staff on technical positions.
  • Familiarity with FERC Order 2023 and the evolving landscape of large generator interconnection reform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of distilling complex regulatory and technical issues for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements concurrently across different ISOs and project stages.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus but not required; relevant certifications in energy regulation or project management are valued.

Salary Transparency

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $95,000 to $140,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined by factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.
