About the Role

Meta's Energy Team is looking for a commercially-savvy and self-motivated energy professional to manage and grow the company's data center energy portfolio. The primary focus will be ensuring a reliable, cost-effective, risk-aware, and sustainable energy supply that aligns with business capacity planning needs. This role will encompass both regulated and organized electricity markets, and will involve managing electricity regulation, policy, and utility relationships for Meta's global data center fleet. The Energy Manager will be instrumental in the development and execution of Meta’s global energy strategy, addressing cost, risk, timelines, and clean energy targets through complex, large-scale energy supply transactions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial background in utility negotiations and with energy suppliers/project developers, alongside experience in markets like WECC, SERC, ERCOT, or SPP. Expertise in commercial, regulatory, market, technical, and financial aspects of energy supply is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage commercial relationships for data centers across diverse U.S. energy markets.
  • Play a key role in regulatory processes, influencing rate-making and energy supply solutions from utilities, suppliers, and market operators.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key utility partners, market participants, regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders.
  • Negotiate deal terms and plan for new capacity, incorporating optionality and scenario analyses to optimize delivery timelines and balance capacity needs.
  • Negotiate and execute new commercial agreements that enable capacity and create flexible options for energy delivery.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to refine commercial arrangements and manage structures for reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy supply.
  • Partner with the Site Selection Team to identify new U.S. locations meeting energy requirements for new data centers.
  • Interface with internal organizations including data center operations, sustainability, policy, communications, design, construction, legal, and finance.
  • Support the ongoing development and execution of Meta’s energy supply strategy for data centers.
  • Stay informed of technical, market, and regulatory developments in the energy industry, communicating key trends, risks, and impacts to management.
  • Lead and support various energy projects as required.
  • Ability to travel domestically (approximately 25%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience navigating commercial energy issues related to customer loads and new customer locations.
  • Proven experience representing business interests to leadership teams of suppliers, utilities, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of transmission, distribution, and utility interconnection processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal staff, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience communicating commercial, regulatory, market, and contractual details effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in standard document and analytics platforms (Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews).
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.
