Lead and Inspire: Workers Compensation Claims Team Manager

Location: West Coast State (Requires bi-monthly in-office presence if within 50 miles of a claims office)

About the Role

Liberty Mutual seeks a proactive Claims Team Manager to lead a team of Claims Specialists managing a portfolio of Workers Compensation claims for a dedicated account. This role is pivotal in achieving optimal outcomes and delivering an exceptional customer experience. You will be instrumental in developing talent, fostering an environment of appreciation, and driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of claims staff, setting priorities, assigning work, and coaching employees in claim review, analysis, investigation, negotiation, and settlement, ensuring compliance with Claims Quality Standards.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team through effective candidate selection, onboarding, ongoing development, and performance management, with a focus on behavior and technical skills.
  • Lead and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, utilizing the Liberty Management System to foster critical thinking and innovation.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships, serving as a primary contact for agents, brokers, and policyholders.
  • Facilitate in-person and telephonic claim reviews and ensure Special Service Instructions are managed effectively.
  • Present to existing and prospective customers.
  • Provide management oversight of claims files, including Manager Reviews, and conduct file reviews for quality assurance and individual development needs.
  • Coach the team to enhance technical expertise.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and approve claims reserves, settlements, and payments within assigned authority limits.
  • Utilize data analytics to track claim production, inventory, financial and quality compliance, and trend results, communicating team performance and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external parameters, including state licensing and fair claims practices.
  • Stay informed about legislation, court decisions, and emerging trends in claims litigation.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Workers Compensation claims investigation, loss assessment, reserving, insurance legal and regulatory environment, litigation, and fraud awareness preferred.
  • Several years of California Workers Compensation claims experience is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through others, communicate effectively (listening, writing, feedback), gain support, plan/organize, analyze/solve problems, and maintain a big-picture perspective.
  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent) with at least 6 years of related experience.
  • Ability to obtain necessary insurance licenses and/or certifications.
