Infrastructure Engineer

Launchdarkly📍 Remote - USEstimated: $80,000 - $120,000

✨ AI Insights & Summary

LaunchDarkly is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to enhance their IDE team, focusing on building, automating, and improving the systems that power their global platform. This role is perfect for engineers who are passionate about creating self-service infrastructure and eliminating operational toil through software. With a "you build it, you run it" culture and a commitment to a high bar for production systems, this position offers a significant opportunity to impact a leading software delivery platform used by millions daily.

About the Job

Software powers the world, and LaunchDarkly empowers all teams to deliver and control the best software. As an Infrastructure Engineer on the IDE team, you'll help us build, automate, and improve the systems that keep LaunchDarkly running at scale. Our platform serves over twenty trillion feature flags daily across a global AWS footprint. The IDE team owns the infrastructure layer—networking, compute, CI/CD, databases, observability—and we're looking for someone who wants to make that layer increasingly self-service and automated. You'll write software that replaces manual processes, build tools that help other engineers move faster, and contribute to a culture where operational toil is treated as a bug to be fixed, not a fact of life. As part of our you-build-it-you-run-it culture, all engineers participate in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and operational workflows.
  • Build and improve internal tools and platforms that make other engineers more productive.
  • Manage and evolve our AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and turn incident patterns into permanent fixes.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to understand their infrastructure needs and reduce friction.
  • Identify repetitive operational work and replace it with software.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with AWS (experience using it; memorization of every service not required).
  • Ability to write code to solve problems, not just configuration, when needed.
  • Curiosity about how things work and willingness to learn new tools quickly.
  • Commitment to working in a communicative and collaborative environment.
  • High standards for working with production systems.
  • Value for code quality, automated testing, and engineering best practices.

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with observability tools like Datadog.

Pay:

  • Zone 1: $191,800 - $263,670 (San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle)
  • Zone 2: $172,600 - $237,270 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago)
  • Zone 3: $163,000 - $224,070 (All other US locations)
  • Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
  • Additional benefits include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, and dental insurance, and mental health benefits.

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business, but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences prevent developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. By gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform guides engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases without fear of outages.
  • Delivering targeted experiences by personalizing features to customer cohorts.
  • Maximizing the business impact of features through experimentation and optimization.
  • Coordinating software release and optimization for consistent cross-platform experiences.
  • Improving engineering team effectiveness and productivity through insights into cadence and stability.

LaunchDarkly values humility, openness, collaboration, respect, and kindness. We are an equal opportunity employer.
