About the Role
As a Lifecycle & Email Marketing Manager (Contractor), you will be instrumental in developing, planning, executing, and optimizing our customer communication strategy. This pivotal, hands-on role sits at the intersection of growth, product, and brand, focusing on guiding users through their entire journey – from onboarding and activation to feature adoption and retention. You will craft and launch high-impact lifecycle communications to drive user engagement for both consumer and enterprise growth.
This position requires a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and analytical prowess. You'll be adept at writing compelling subject lines, building effective email sequences, and analyzing performance data, all within the same day. A deep understanding of our product and users will be key to identifying opportunities for improving user experience, adoption, and funnel progression.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will drive the following outcomes:
- Lifecycle Campaign Execution: Build, schedule, and send email campaigns across the customer lifecycle (onboarding, feature education, retention, resurrection) for both B2C and B2B audiences using Iterable and Pardot. Manage ad hoc sends and automated journey programs.
- Journey Strategy and Optimization: Monitor and optimize existing evergreen journeys based on engagement data. Develop new automated programs to enhance user activation and retention, bringing a strategic point of view on effective journey design.
- Reporting and Performance Analysis: Proactively monitor campaign and journey performance, surface insights, and utilize data from tools like Amplitude or Looker to identify gaps and iterate. Deliver recommendations within 60 days.
- Cross-functional Execution: Partner closely with Marketing Ops, Product Marketing, Design, and the broader marketing team to ensure campaigns are on-brief, timely, and error-free. Manage coordination independently.
- Testing and Optimization: Design and execute A/B tests on messaging, timing, segmentation, and subject lines. Maintain documentation for repeatability and auditability.
Qualifications & Skills
To succeed in this role, you will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Lifecycle and Email Strategy: Deep understanding of lifecycle marketing, focusing on onboarding, nurturing, and retention. Ability to conceptualize effective user journeys.
- Email Deliverability & Best Practices: Working technical understanding of email marketing fundamentals, including deliverability, list health, and inbox placement.
- Platform Execution: Hands-on experience with CRM and marketing automation platforms, specifically Iterable. Familiarity with Salesforce, Pardot, or Marketing Cloud Account Engagement is a plus. Ability to build, test, and troubleshoot independently.
- In-app and Email Alignment: Ability to coordinate email and in-product touchpoints for cohesive lifecycle experiences, collaborating with product and ops.
- Data-Driven Iteration: Proficiency in measuring lifecycle performance using tools like Amplitude or Looker, identifying underperforming areas, and acting on insights proactively.
- Copywriting and Sequencing: Skill in writing persona-driven copy with strong instincts for tone, messaging hierarchy, and journey flow. Ability to think in sequences.
- Adaptability: High output and ability to adjust to shifting priorities and compressed timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience
- Required: 5-7+ years in lifecycle or email marketing within a SaaS environment.
- Required: Hands-on Iterable experience with campaign building, journey creation, and audience segmentation.
- Required: Proven track record of creating and optimizing email campaigns that drive user progression.
- Required: Experience with A/B testing and personalization strategies across CRM/email channels.
- Required: Familiarity with growth KPIs (MAU, DAU, retention, activation rate, churn reduction).
- Required: B2B OR B2C experience (flexibility between both strongly preferred).
- Required: Strong collaboration skills, especially with product, design, and operations teams.
- Preferred: EdTech background or experience marketing to educators.
- Preferred: Experience with Pardot/Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement.
- Preferred: Data analysis using Amplitude, Looker, or similar tools.
- Preferred: Basic HTML for email editing.
