Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) - General Internal Medicine (Virtual Primary Care)
Overview
The University of Colorado Anschutz is establishing a Virtual Primary Care Practice, a collaborative effort between the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. This practice will support 15 CU primary care clinics by offering virtual same-day appointments and providing a primarily virtual primary care experience for an assigned patient panel.
Job Summary
The General Internal Medicine (GIM) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will deliver comprehensive virtual primary care services. This includes managing chronic diseases, handling acute and urgent care needs, coordinating post-hospitalization follow-up, and providing wellness and preventative care for adult patients. The APP will be responsible for evaluating, assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, and educating patients. The role requires delivering high-quality primary care, completing thorough patient histories and assessments with accurate documentation in medical records, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., pharmacy) to ensure optimal virtual patient care.
Depending on the growth and needs of the Virtual Primary Care Practice, a limited amount of traditional in-clinic primary care within the Denver Metro area may be required.
Examples of Work Performed
Virtual Primary Care:
- Provide full-scope patient care in a virtual primary care setting.
- Participate in chart review and clinical coding compliance activities as needed.
- Collaborate with medical staff on the care of complex patients.
- Interact with other health professionals to develop guidelines and coordinate patient care.
- Team with colleagues in chronic disease management and patient care management.
- Support and collaborate with medical, nursing, and office staff.
Administrative/Professional Development:
- Maintain eligibility for School of Medicine Faculty status.
- Stay current with the latest developments in the field through academic study and applied skills.
- Attend and present at conferences, meetings, and trainings for certification and professional enhancement; participate in faculty development activities.
- Undertake other responsibilities assigned by the Medical Director.
Quality Improvement:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies for quality improvement.
Work Location
- Remote: This position is eligible for remote work within the United States. Occasional in-clinic primary care in the Denver Metro area may be required based on practice needs. Travel for in-person work is at the employee's expense.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree: Master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Licensure: Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Colorado.
- Credentials: Medicare/Medicaid credentials; Unrestricted DEA license.
- Certification: Board certified or board eligible as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Experience: Two (2) or more years of professional experience in a primary care setting (fellowships count towards experience).
*Note: Faculty Rank (Instructor or Senior Instructor) will be determined by years of experience, fellowships completed, and board certification.
Senior Instructor Minimum Qualifications:
- All Instructor qualifications plus:
- Experience: Three (3) or more years of professional experience in a primary care setting (fellowships count towards experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four (4) or more years of professional experience in a primary care setting (fellowships count towards experience).
- Professional experience providing care via telehealth.
- Experience working with Epic or another EHR system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to provide age-appropriate care, assess patient status, and interpret information for age-specific needs.
- Demonstrates cultural humility and commitment to minimizing implicit bias in clinical care.
- Ability to consult with supervisory physicians on patient care and administrative issues.
- Proficiency in documenting patient encounters using the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ability to discuss and promote wellness for all patients.
- Skill in referring patients to other healthcare professionals when care exceeds scope of practice.
- Proven effectiveness working with diverse populations.

Anticipated Pay Range
- Instructor: $113,000 – $120,000
- Senior Instructor: $116,000 – $126,000
The stated hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
