Job Details: Property Claims Adjuster

This core individual contributor role involves managing homeowner property claims from first notice of loss through resolution. The position requires a blend of technical claims expertise, a strong customer focus, and meticulous attention to detail. You will investigate losses, produce accurate estimates, and deliver an exceptional policyholder experience, embodying Openly's core values.

Key Responsibilities

Claim Investigation & Coverage Analysis

  • Manage end-to-end property claim handling, including supplements, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, including policy review, coverage analysis, and liability determination.
  • Examine claims for subrogation opportunities and identify potential fraud.
  • Determine appropriate inspection methods (virtual, field, third-party) based on claim complexity.
  • Conduct virtual inspections using video, AI-assisted tools, and other emerging technologies.

Estimating & File Documentation

  • Complete accurate property damage estimates using Cotality estimating software.
  • Prepare and maintain thorough file documentation, including coverage letters, estimates, activity notes, and settlement documentation.
  • Adhere to reserving best practices and update reserves accurately.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Proactively manage claims with a commitment to timeliness and exceeding expectations.
  • Provide superior customer service to policyholders, claimants, and agents.
  • Provide regular, clear, and professional updates to all stakeholders.
  • Negotiate claim settlements fairly and professionally.
  • Maintain availability to assist customers and respond promptly to inquiries.

Vendor & Partner Collaboration

  • Manage and collaborate with vendor partners (contractors, independent adjusters, engineers).
  • Partner with internal functions (SIU, Subrogation, Legal, Underwriting) for aligned claim outcomes.

Continuous Improvement & Team Contribution

  • Contribute ideas for process improvement to enhance efficiency and claim quality.
  • Work extended hours during CAT events or high claim volume periods as needed.
  • Support a collaborative team environment and foster accountability and learning.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of property adjusting claims experience and customer service.
  • Experience writing estimates in Cotality, Xactimate, or a comparable platform.
  • Experience writing estimates based on field inspection information (not just reviewing others').
  • Active adjuster license(s) or eligibility to obtain required state licenses.
  • Experience in a remote or hybrid claims environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google productivity tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work from home without distraction.
  • Tech-savvy with comfort using advanced adjusting tools (virtual inspections, estimating platforms).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a fast-paced team.
  • Comfortable with constant change and adaptability in a rapidly growing company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with virtual inspection tools and AI-assisted claims platforms.
  • Exposure to catastrophe (CAT) claim operations.
  • Innovative mindset with a track record of contributing to process improvement.
  • Experience with MacBook and Google Suite products.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant professional designations (CCP, CPCU, AIC).

Work Environment

  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Remote-first environment.
  • Regular availability during core business hours expected.
  • Occasional extended hours required during CAT events or high claim volume.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Budgeted Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 USD.
  • Full Salary Range: $60,750 - $112,250 USD (Actual compensation determined by experience and qualifications).
