The Role: Assistant Store Manager

Reporting to the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the management and supervision of all assigned areas, ensuring adherence to company policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. This role involves learning all phases of store operations and taking full responsibility for leading the entire store operation in the absence of the Store Manager to ensure company standards and best practices are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Operating Requirements: Lead company best practices, maximize productivity, analyze store reports, ensure compliance with regulations, manage associate scheduling and tasks, and oversee payroll administration.
  • Organizational Development: Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates, ensuring compliance with personnel policies and procedures, and addressing associate relations issues.
  • Expense Control: Assist in managing expenditures within budget, controlling payroll hours based on business trends.
  • Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment: Prioritize safety, ensure associates understand emergency procedures, maintain adherence to safety policies, and assist in facilitating safety meetings.
  • Customer Service: Treat all customers and associates with respect, demonstrate courtesy and professionalism, execute customer service programs, and coach associates on efficient and friendly service.
  • Personal and Store Brand: Represent and support the company brand, maintain a professional appearance, and ensure the store is clean, neat, and easy to shop.
  • Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing: Ensure recovery, sizing, markdowns, and merchandising are completed to company standards, and manage merchandise processing to the sales floor within expected timeframes.
  • Loss Prevention: Assist in training associates on loss prevention awareness, safeguard confidential information and merchandise, and maintain high loss prevention awareness through customer engagement and sales floor presence.

Qualifications & Special Skills

  • Two or more years of Store or Assistant Store Manager experience in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintain high quality of customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Physical Requirements/ADA

  • Ability to use all store equipment.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of all non-exempt associates.
