About the Role

Engineers in the Insights team play a key role in shaping Bolt's data ecosystem. You will own the infrastructure and frameworks that streamline development, testing, and maintenance of data products, turning petabytes of data into reusable models and metrics. Teams across the organization will create dashboards, custom data applications, and chat with data using the tools you will provide. You will work closely with data producers and consumers to understand their needs and challenges, continuously seeking improvements, and driving complex projects from idea to completion. We work with a wide range of technologies, including Python libraries, dbt, Airflow, Databricks, Terraform, AWS, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the foundational infrastructure and frameworks that support building, testing, and deploying dbt on Databricks, with 3,500+ dbt models.
• Ensure customer success by helping data practitioners use the platform effectively and in a self-service manner.
• Keep 800+ daily Databricks jobs reliable, observable, and cost-efficient with an observability layer that detects pipeline failures and surfaces areas for improvement.
• Keep Looker running smoothly for the 4,000 Bolt employees, serving 300,000 queries daily over petabytes of data.
• Seek and enable new ways to use data, such as chatting with data agents.
• Build CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions that validate, test, and deploy data products reliably.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including hands-on experience with large-scale distributed data systems or compute engines like Apache Spark.
• Proficient in Python or another mainstream OOP language. Strong engineering fundamentals and adaptability are valued.
• Familiarity with the modern data stack (dbt, Databricks, Airflow, Delta Lake, or equivalents).
• Excellent communication skills, fluent in spoken and written English, and comfortable collaborating with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Understanding of modern CI/CD practices and valuing automation, testing, and observability as core engineering principles.
• Driven by customer success with a track record of leading and delivering complex, cross-team projects.
