This role is hybrid, with four days per week in our San Francisco FiDi office.
About the Role
Altruist is hiring an IT Manager to lead its Information Technology function. This senior-most IT role at the company involves owning identity management, device lifecycle, helpdesk operations, audit compliance, vendor relationships, and managing a team of engineers across four offices. You will report directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering and be a peer to Engineering Managers across the organization.
This is not a traditional IT management role. Altruist treats IT as an engineering discipline with roadmaps, OKRs, architecture decisions, and a career ladder. You will write Okta Workflows, build n8n automations, participate in audit evidence reviews, and lead a team through hiring, development, and 1:1s. The ideal candidate leads with technical credibility and manages with clarity.
What Sets This Role Apart
- Own the Function: Take charge of identity management, device lifecycle, helpdesk, audit compliance, vendor relationships, and infrastructure projects.
- Lead an AI-Native IT Operation: Extend the roadmap for our automation layer and AI helpdesk agent.
- Build the Team: Manage and grow a team of 2-3 engineers, shaping the IT function's future.
- Partner with Engineering: Collaborate closely with Cloud Infrastructure, Security, and Platform teams.
- Be the Technical Authority: Serve as the go-to expert for Okta architecture, VPN design, and MDM strategy.
What You’ll Do
- Identity & Access Management:
- Administer Okta as the company’s identity platform, managing SSO/SCIM integrations, group lifecycle, and automating provisioning with Okta Workflows.
- Lead the Active Directory to Okta migration and close security gaps in AWS and Microsoft AD environments.
- Own the Enterprise VPN migration from OpenVPN to an Okta IDP-integrated solution.
- Partner with Security on YubiKey program completion and endpoint vulnerability SLAs.
- AI & Automation:
- Extend the IT automation roadmap (Okta Workflows, n8n, Google Apps Script, Claude Code) to automate repeatable processes.
- Launch the T1/T2 helpdesk AI agent for autonomous handling of Okta app access and password resets.
- Complete the audit evidence AI agent pilot to reduce manual SOC 2 and ITGC evidence collection.
- Device & Hardware Operations:
- Manage the MDM/RMM environment using Kaseya VSA, including device enrollment, EOL replacement, and patching.
- Implement Zero Touch Deployment for pre-configured laptop provisioning.
- Oversee hardware procurement, maintain asset inventory, and manage the device lifecycle.
- Helpdesk & Employee Experience:
- Manage helpdesk operations across four offices, configuring JSM, setting SLAs, and defining escalation paths.
- Oversee new hire onboarding and offboarding, including Okta provisioning, device setup, and access lifecycle.
- Support Corp RIA Beta IT operations for incoming Altruist Advisors.
- Audit, Compliance & Security:
- Lead IT’s role in SOC 2 and ITGC audits, including evidence collection and BDO relationship management.
- Partner with Security on endpoint monitoring, EDR tooling, and security awareness compliance.
- Drive automated evidence collection through the audit evidence agent pilot.
- Team & Vendor Leadership:
- Manage and develop a team of 2-3 IT engineers across Culver City, Dallas, and San Francisco.
- Own all IT vendor relationships, negotiating proactively.
- Collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure, Security, and Platform engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 1 year in a management or senior technical lead role in a fast-paced tech or fintech environment.

- MDM proficiency with Kaseya VSA, Jamf, or Intune.
- Networking fundamentals (VLANs, VPN, TCP/IP, Meraki or equivalent).
- Proven people management experience (leading teams, performance management, hiring).
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI-native IT tooling (Okta Workflows, n8n, Glean, agentic AI platforms).
- AWS familiarity (IAM, SSO, VPN).
- Experience in a regulated financial services company (broker-dealer, RIA, fintech).
- Hands-on experience with Active Directory migration to Okta LDAP.
- Experience with Zero Touch Deployment.
- Familiarity with Jira Service Management.
- AWS CCP certification or equivalent.
- Automation experience (Bash, Python, PowerShell, Google Apps Script, n8n).
