About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Data Architect to join our Technology Architecture team. You will partner with Architecture, Engineering, and Consulting Global Business Areas, aligning technology roadmaps with business goals to drive growth and operational excellence. This role is crucial in transforming data into a strategic asset by ensuring it is well-structured, governed, and leveraged effectively. You will play a key role in shaping data architecture, roadmaps, and solutions that address business challenges and opportunities, with a significant focus on building Engineering Data Warehouses (EDWH) and applying data-centric principles to generate valuable business insights.
What You Will Do
- Business Needs Translation: Translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and secure data architectures aligned with enterprise data strategy. Leverage Enterprise Data Architecture to unlock new revenue streams, optimize operational efficiency, and implement AI-enabled solutions.
- Modern Data Architectures: Lead the design and implementation of scalable, robust, and secure data systems using modern data stack technologies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Data Quality & Access: Improve and ensure the overall quality of data, including ease of access and use.
- Integration Solutions: Design and implement integration solutions that connect disparate business systems and data sources for seamless data flow.
- Support Data Platform Teams: Work with data platform teams to design operating models supporting efficient data processing, integrations, reporting, and AI model deployment.
- Data Modeling: Design and develop data models optimized for performance and scalability to support business processes, analytics, and reporting.
- Technology Roadmaps: Engage with technology providers to understand critical data-relevant roadmaps and evaluate innovative solutions against business goals and enterprise data strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve Ramboll Tech’s enterprise data architecture, including principles, target-state models, and standards.
- Lead the architectural design to transform data ecosystems into scalable, AI-ready data products.
- Establish, document, and enforce data architecture standards, data modeling guidelines, and best practices.
- Define and maintain enterprise and domain data models.
- Shape data products, contracts, and interoperability patterns.
- Guide data platform usage (e.g., DWH, EDWH, Fabric, analytics layers).
- Ensure integration points adhere to strict data protection standards across multi-geo environments.
- Implement frameworks for data lineage, data cataloging, and automated observability.
- Maintain repositories for data elements, information flows, and business glossaries.
- Contribute to architectural governance by reviewing data-related designs and ensuring alignment with Ramboll’s target architecture.
- Collaborate with data governance teams to embed data quality, security, and compliance (e.g., GDPR) into data pipelines and designs.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (business stakeholders, product owners, data scientists, data engineers) to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
- Operationalize data architecture and build robust technology stacks for digital and analytic solutions.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve data engineering efficiency.
How You Will Succeed
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years in data architecture, with a strong focus on cloud architecture, data integration, and data modeling.
- Deep understanding of the modern data stack and its components.
- Proven experience establishing data architecture and data governance.
- Experience in leading data modeling, database design, data warehousing, master data management, and data governance practices.
- Strong skills in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration, with experience working with data platform teams.
- Experience in securing and protecting sensitive information.
- Experience in the AEC industry is a plus.
- Experience developing data pipelines for engineering platform data.
- Experience implementing decentralized data products within a Data Mesh architecture.
- Proven experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, GCP, or AWS).
- Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Data Modeling (Conceptual, Logical, Physical), Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Data Mesh, Data Governance, Metadata Management, Master Data Management.
- Skilled in leading the lifecycle of production-grade data products.
- Familiarity with the DAMA Data Management Framework (DAMA-DMBOK).
- Understanding of engineering platforms and data integration with engineering systems (great to have).
- Advanced knowledge of data modeling tools, data lakes, SQL, and pipeline design.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Fabric platform (great to have).
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., Data Engineering, Databricks) are a plus.
