Hardware Systems Engineer
What MatX Is Building:
MatX is building the compute platform for AGI, developing vertically integrated full-stack solutions from silicon to systems. We are creating best-in-class silicon for high-performance and sustainable GenAI, responsible for delivering performant and functionally accurate silicon for compute, memory management, high-speed connectivity, and other key technologies.
About the Role:
We are looking for a Hardware Systems Engineer to join our Hardware Systems team. You will own the definition, design, and validation of compute trays, boards, and interconnects for our rack-scale AI data center platform. This role involves working across control plane, data plane, and management plane functionality to drive power efficiency, scalability, reliability, and system performance at scale.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Take full ownership of board design, specifications, schematic design, verification, and reliability test plans for our AI compute boards.
- Design and capture schematics, and collaborate with layout engineers to release Gerber files.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including thermal, mechanical, SIPI, ASIC, platform software, and manufacturing diagnostic software teams.
- Perform board bring-up and debug hardware issues in the lab.
- Support platform and manufacturing tests.
- Collaborate with JDMs (Joint Development Manufacturers).
Who You Are:
- At least 10 years of experience in system-level development, preferably in the server, computer, or network industries.
- Proficient in DC/DC PoL and multi-phase VRM designs and verifications with 48V and 12V bus. Experience with high-power AI server design is desirable.
- Experience with BMC and DC-SCM designs.
- Experience with 100G+ Ethernet and high-speed SerDes interfaces, PCIe Gen5/6, as well as SPI, I2C, UART, USB.
- Familiar with criteria for critical component selection.
- Hands-on experience with board design using schematic capture tools and Allegro.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as real-time oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, PCIe exercisers, and analyzers.
- Demonstrated ability in lab bring-up and design validation.
- Proven track record of delivering shipped products.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent team player.
- Familiarity with OCP ORV3 HPR, VHDC, and IEC standards is a plus.
- This position requires both design and lab work.
Compensation:
- Early Career: $120,000 - $275,000 + equity
- Mid Career: $175,000 - $450,000 + equity
- Senior Career: $275,000 - $600,000 + equity
