About the Role

Join MongoDB's Technical Services team as a Technical Services Engineer, focusing on Second Shift (12 pm - 9 pm PST). You will leverage your exceptional problem-solving skills and deep technical experience to advise customers and resolve complex MongoDB ecosystem issues. This role requires expertise in the entire MongoDB ecosystem, including the database server, drivers, cloud services (Atlas), and automation tools (Cloud Manager). You will work with large customers, resolve architectural, performance, and security challenges, and act as an advocate for customer needs within MongoDB. This position requires US citizenship and the ability to work on US soil.

Cool Things You'll Do

  • Solve complex customer issues related to MongoDB architecture, performance, recovery, and security.
  • Serve as an expert resource on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale.
  • Act as an advocate for customer needs by working with product management and development teams.
  • Contribute to internal projects, including software development for support tools.
  • Mentor and ramp new team members.
  • Take initiative in building knowledge of new product lines within the MongoDB ecosystem.

What You Need

  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
  • Storage engineering experience (NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, caching).
  • Experience building and maintaining complex, mission-critical production database systems.
  • Ability to read code and basic coding/scripting ability in one or more languages (Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Javascript, node.js, Go, etc.).
  • Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases (performance, availability, scalability).
  • Experience analyzing issues holistically, from application tier through the database to storage.
  • Genuine desire to help people.
  • Ability to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure, and solve problems in real-time.
  • Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to get help from team members and know when to seek help.

Bonus Points

  • Experience managing large scale databases (RDBMS, NoSQL).
  • Experience with authentication systems (LDAP, Kerberos, AD).
  • Experience using or managing MongoDB.
  • Experience using distributed version control systems (git).
  • Experience using cloud services stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems.

Special Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be on US soil.

Work Schedule & Coverage

  • Second Shift: Working hours are 12 pm - 9 pm PST.
  • Weekend Shift: Permanent Wednesday to Sunday work week for weekend coverage.
  • Monday to Friday for the first 6-9 months (depending on ramping speed) is standard.
  • Occasional volunteering for coverage outside normal hours may be required with advance notice.
