Engineering Manager

Community Tech Alliance (CTA) is seeking a passionate Engineering Manager to lead and grow the engineering team behind PAD, our flagship data infrastructure platform serving progressive organizations nationwide. This is a player-coach role where you will lead and develop engineers while staying connected to the technical work, setting direction, removing blockers, and fostering an environment where great engineering thrives.

This is a meaningful opportunity to shape a high-impact product from the inside. You will work closely with product and operations leadership to translate strategy into execution, ensuring the engineering team has the clarity, support, and culture needed to do its best work.

Community Tech Alliance builds technology purpose-built for the progressive ecosystem, simplifying complex data and software engineering for our partners. Our flagship platform, PAD (Progressive Analytics Database), provides nonprofits, campaigns, and advocacy groups with access to a managed data warehouse and analytics stack.

About You:

• Proven experience leading or being part of a team accountable for a large, complex technical project.
• Comfortable as a player-coach, managing people while remaining engaged in technical work.
• Ability to synthesize multiple perspectives, make diplomatic decisions, and chart a course of action.
• Skilled at identifying ambiguity and helping the team find clarity.
• Actively thinks about how AI tools can augment team performance.
• Experience working with product engineering teams.
• Values continual learning and prioritizes team development.
• Receptive to feedback and open to introspection.
• Actively supports psychological safety.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Background:

• Experience with cloud infrastructure and data systems (ideally GCP/BigQuery).
• Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL workflows, and orchestration tools.
• Comfortable reviewing code and contributing to production systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and developer workflows.
• Familiarity with open-source and cloud-native tooling.
• Experience documenting systems and processes clearly.

Our stack includes Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, dbt, Airbyte, Google BigQuery, GCP services, and Terraform. We hire for people over specific tool experience.

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary: $165,000-200,000, commensurate with experience.
