About the Team

The User Risk Strategy (URS) organization protects and advances Stripe's business, brand, and mission by developing and deploying market-leading policies and practices. We build user and partner trust while enabling business growth. Within URS, the Ecosystem Risk Strategy Team is part of Stripe's "First Line of Defense." We drive the frameworks that govern who Stripe does business with, on what terms, and how enforcement is executed at scale. This includes focusing on Stripe's positioning within the broader payments and risk ecosystem, card network supportability, industry-body engagement, regulatory scanning, and the overarching risk framework. We collaborate with cross-functional partners (XFN) like Risk Partnerships, Credit, Legal, and Fraud to monitor and mitigate risks related to card network rules and BIN sponsor requirements, ensuring our standards are appropriately calibrated.

What You'll Do

We are looking for someone passionate about navigating ambiguity, engaging stakeholders, balancing risk with business growth, and improving user experience. You will drive risk strategy for company-level initiatives, partnering with Product, Legal, Operations, Sales, and Partnerships teams to solve risk problems and ensure a positive user experience. You will conduct research and analysis to assess risk performance and develop strategic plans. You'll enable user onboarding for safe, scalable growth, optimizing for efficiency and user experience. You will challenge the status quo, propose alternative solutions, and represent Stripe in external engagements.

Responsibilities

• Drive risk strategy for company-level strategic initiatives, partnering with Product, Legal, Operations, Sales, and Partnerships.
• Conduct research and analysis to assess current risk performance and develop long-term strategic plans.
• Enable user onboarding for safe, scalable growth, optimizing for efficiency and user experience.
• Challenge the status quo and propose alternative solutions with clear execution criteria.
• Represent Stripe in external engagements with critical partners and customers.
• Execute special projects and ad hoc analyses as business needs evolve.

Who You Are

Minimum Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional experience, preferably in Financial Services, Payments, or Fintech.
• Experience in a related role (risk, compliance, and/or product enablement).
• Experience developing risk strategies and solutions, and working with technical and operations teams for implementation.
• Ability to distill complex risk and policy problems into clear guidance for stakeholders and users.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including influencing Product/Engineering, Sales, Data Science, and Operations teams.
• Proven ability to translate complex issues into actionable steps, hold others accountable, and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated track record of deriving insights from complex problem spaces and recommending actionable product improvements.
• Familiarity with legal, credit, and fraud risk.
• Strong executive presence, including experience engaging with leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL) and quantitative analysis.
• Advanced degree in law, business, policy, or a related field.
• Experience translating business requirements into technical configurations.
• Experience in a client-facing role managing relationships with large, global organizations.
