About the Position
A Team Leader at Remote is responsible for the overall work and success of their team, acting as its spokesperson. You will manage team dynamics, foster individual growth, and drive optimized execution. This role involves actively participating in product development alongside management duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small product team of 3-5 engineers (backend and frontend).
- Dedicate approximately 30% of your time to management tasks, with the remaining time spent actively participating in product development within your team.
- Be involved in hiring processes for your team and potentially assist peers.
- Oversee the onboarding process for new engineers.
- Manage team dynamics and bring out the best in team members.
- Provide continuous and constructive feedback.
- Facilitate the team's continuous growth as a group and support each direct report's career development.
- Provide guidance and coaching to the team.
- Redesign engineering work processes to leverage autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
- Propose and operationalize agentic workflows end-to-end (spec → plan → execute → verify) to deliver outcomes faster.
- Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives in the codebase for repeated application across domains.
- Utilize verification loops (tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.
Requirements
- Experience managing an engineering team of at least 2 people.
- Extensive experience with Backend development (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming).
- Commitment to promoting all of Remote’s values within the team and the wider organization.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
- Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and improving them through iteration.
- Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
- Solid communication skills.
- Solid knowledge of engineering and development principles and best practices.
- Proven organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Focus on efficient processes with a kind, people-first approach.
- Ability to inspire others and instill confidence.
- Good understanding of team dynamics.
- Ambitious and intentional about diversity, equality, and inclusion.
- Demonstrates strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.

Salary Range
$75,450—$169,700 USD annually
