Research Scientist - LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health & Suicidology (Remote, US)

About The Trevor Project:
The Trevor Project is the leading non-profit organization combating the global suicide epidemic among LGBTQ+ young people. We provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services, and we are dedicated to ending suicide and addressing mental health crises in the LGBTQ+ youth community.

The Role:
We are seeking a passionate Research Scientist to join our Research Science team. This remote role, based in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii, will focus on expanding the body of research on LGBTQ+ youth mental health, with a specialized focus on the theoretical understanding of suicidology. You will collaborate on research design and analysis, conduct complex quantitative analyses, and contribute to high-impact publications and reports. You will be a leading researcher in this critical field.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quantitative analyses of national cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys on LGBTQ+ youth mental health, focusing on risk and protective factors for suicide.
  • Co-author manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, mass consumption briefs, and reports.
  • Present research findings to diverse stakeholders, including internal groups, external partners, conferences, and the media.
  • Provide input to enhance future national surveys, ensuring they address key research areas.
  • Collaborate with other departments on internal initiatives to ensure data-informed decision-making.
  • Identify and disseminate relevant new research on crisis services, suicide prevention, mental health, and LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Demonstrate fair, ethical, and equitable business practices.
  • Learn eagerly, share knowledge appropriately, and improve continuously.
  • Exhibit successful planning and problem-solving skills, including multitasking and working well within tight timelines.
  • Work, communicate, and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Foster and maintain an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree.
  • Demonstrated track record of publishing peer-reviewed research on LGBTQ+ young people, with expertise in LGBTQ+ youth mental health and suicidology.
  • Proficiency in:
  • Quantitative analysis of survey data.
  • Collaborating with empathy and inclusion, building trust with cross-functional teams.
  • Articulating thoughts and ideas clearly in written and oral forms, distilling complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Outstanding internal and external service, with proactive and inclusive issue resolution.
  • Demonstrating commitment to The Trevor Project’s mission and vision.
  • Setting clear timelines and driving projects to completion, conceptualizing, conducting, and interpreting complex quantitative analyses.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Salary Range:
$75,000 - $91,000 per year.
