Reporter, Publishing Industry - The New York Times

The New York Times Book Review is seeking an experienced, ambitious, and creative Reporter to cover the publishing industry and the wider literary world. This role is crucial to fulfilling The New York Times' mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world through independent journalism.

This is an in-office position based in New York City, requiring regular attendance four days per week, with potential flexibility for remote work per departmental guidance.

Responsibilities:

• Report, write, and publish multiple stories per week, including news, service, and enterprise pieces.
• Cover industry news, publishing deals, trends, legislation, sales, and more, bringing fresh and compelling angles.
• Cultivate sources and regularly deliver scoops.
• Develop stories featuring a diverse range of voices and perspectives.
• Collaborate with visual editors on new story formats and multimedia, including reporter video.
• Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the company's mission.
• Report to the Book Review's news editor.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of journalism experience as a reporter.
• Strong news judgment and instincts.
• Experience in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of, and sources within, the publishing industry and wider literary world.
• Creativity and willingness to experiment with new story forms.
• Ability to convey news in multiple modes (audio, video) in addition to text.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Annual Base Pay Salary: $113,270.67 - $125,000.00 USD
