About the Role
The Documents Platform team at Coalition is responsible for the creation, storage, and analysis of insurance documents, enabling the transformation of raw data into actionable intelligence. As a Support Engineer, you will work closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Underwriters to build and maintain document templates (policies, quotes, binders, endorsements, notices). This role offers a flexible growth path towards software engineering or project management, allowing you to deepen technical skills and develop leadership capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of document templates: From design and implementation through testing, rollout, and ongoing maintenance for all insurance lines.
- Translate insurance product requirements into reusable, schema-driven templates: Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, underwriters, and other business partners to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with product intent.
- Develop, debug, and optimize document templates: Diagnose and resolve data-mapping issues, layout bugs, and performance problems in collaboration with the engineering team.
- Maintain high standards for document quality and stability: Write and execute test plans, validate outputs, and prevent regressions.
- Triage, prioritize, and resolve document-related requests and incidents: Utilize tools like Jira for workload management, status communication, and expectation setting.
- Continuously improve templating tools and processes: Partner with Software Engineers to enhance the speed and safety of template development.
- Act as a subject-matter expert: Provide guidance on document behavior and configuration, document best practices, and mentor peers.
- Collaborate across teams and time zones: Support document maintenance, launches, migrations, and experiments.
Skills and Qualifications
- Required:
- Strong passion for problem-solving and debugging in systems involving data, logic, and layout.
- Experience in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript), including comfort reading and modifying existing code.
- Comfort with or interest in learning HTML and templating technologies (e.g., Jinja), with a willingness to work hands-on with production templates.
- Familiarity with structured data formats (e.g., JSON) and mapping data into templates or configurations.
- Ability to manage multiple requests and projects simultaneously, using tools like Jira for organization and communication.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality in customer-facing documents.
- Eagerness to learn and grow technical expertise and domain knowledge.

Compensation
The US base salary range for this position is $63,800/year to $94,050/year, depending on geographic market and candidate qualifications. The salary range is subject to change.
