Overview:
CCE is seeking a Senior Director/VP, Origination to lead the market-facing origination function. This player-coach role involves leading a lean team focused on utility, Data Centers, and near-term power market segments across North America. You will serve as a senior face of CCE, manage key relationships, and drive the commercial pipeline. This role requires a deep understanding of power trading, hedging, and utility procurement cycles, coupled with a strong network and the ability to manage the full customer lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Market Strategy and Intelligence
- Own market coverage strategy across all US markets.
- Define priority states, monitor IRP cycles, large load tariffs, interconnection movements, and regulatory shifts.
- Leverage CCE’s greenfield and M&A pipeline to structure value-added solutions.
- Synthesize customer feedback and competitive intelligence to inform strategy.
Customer Relationships
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with IOUs, electric co-ops, municipal utilities, Hyperscalers, Data Centers, and C&I customers.
- Manage the full relationship lifecycle from qualification to deal activation.
- Represent CCE at industry conferences, RTO stakeholder meetings, and utility working groups.
Deal Origination and Execution
- Lead origination of utility offtake opportunities (solar, BESS, gas, hybrid) including PPAs, VPPAs, ESAs, and build-transfer structures.
- Own short-term and near-term power market origination, including bilateral hedges and capacity agreements.
- Apply energy trading and hedging experience to structure transactions and optimize asset value.
- Qualify opportunities against commercial criteria and advance through the Deal Desk.
- Respond to utility RFPs and large load solicitations.
Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and develop the North American origination team, ensuring accountability for market coverage, pipeline quality, and relationship depth.
- Establish operating cadence, including pipeline reviews and performance management.
- Design team structure and coverage roles as CCE’s commercial ambition grows.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Development, Finance, Structuring, M&A, and Legal teams.
- Maintain full pipeline visibility through disciplined Salesforce CRM management.
Education & Experience Required:
- 10+ years in energy markets (power origination, utility commercial, or energy trading/structuring).
- Established senior relationships across IOUs, Co-ops, Hyperscalers, and C&I energy buyers.
- Proven experience building and managing origination teams.
- Player-coach mentality: actively originating while leading the team.
- Deep knowledge of US power markets (RTO structure, LMP dynamics, capacity markets, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with short-term power trading, bilateral hedging, and near-term market transactions.
- Demonstrated track record originating and executing utility offtake agreements.
- Working knowledge of natural gas markets.
Preferred:
- Experience across utility-scale solar/BESS and gas (hybrid/dispatchable configurations).
- Familiarity with ESA and Energy-as-a-Service commercial structures.
- Background spanning utility, IPP, hyperscaler, energy trading firm, and/or independent developer.
- Working knowledge of project finance, tax equity, and capital stack implications.
Location:
The preferred location for this role is one of our office locations: New York City, NY, or Chicago, IL. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with three days per week in the office.
Compensation:
The salary range for the position is $260,000-$305,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
