About the Role

The Control Center Operator I plays a critical role in the daily monitoring and operations of Convergent’s fleet of energy storage and solar assets. This is an individual contributor role. The role is fully remote for candidates outside the New York Metropolitan area, with a hybrid option for those within the area (1-2 days/week in office). We value flexibility and encourage discussion about preferences.

What You'll Do:

Daily Asset Operations (40%)

  • Increase knowledge of plant equipment, SCADA systems, and Emergency Response Plans (ERPs).
  • Apply basic knowledge of energy storage systems, PV solar systems, and SCADA platforms to perform operational duties.
  • Perform daily assessment of asset operational status and create trouble tickets to prioritize investigation and remediation of issues.
  • Manage asset dispatch based on platform directives.
  • Respond to changing conditions to maximize plant safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor data inputs (weather, solar irradiance, demand response requests, etc.) to respond to dispatch and curtailment requests.
  • Answer phone calls and work with field technicians to perform maintenance on site equipment.
  • Follow approved operational procedures for routine tasks (e.g., operating switchgear, starting/stopping equipment).
  • Recognize and address unsafe working conditions.

Event Management & Triage (25%)

  • Visually monitor network, asset, and plant parameters to verify operating conditions and detect faults.
  • Respond to proactive monitoring alerts and document faults or issues.
  • Log actions taken during your shift in monitoring, activity logging, and ticketing systems.

Incident Response & On-call Escalation (20%)

  • Escalate impactful issues to vendors, partners, data carriers, and Field Operations.
  • Support vendors and Field Operations in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Respond to off-hours calls to the Emergency Response line and take appropriate action.

Problem Management & Change Management (15%)

  • Anticipate problems, identify opportunities for improvements, and take appropriate action.
  • Coordinate with customer, vendor, and partner contacts on forced or scheduled outages.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in operating computers and multitasking across various systems, including the plant’s main Integrated SCADA system.
  • Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems or Asset/Building management systems.
  • Experience operating assets for an electrical, utility, renewable energy, or municipal service provider.
  • Experience using and controlling electrical meters, relays, PLCs, and RTACs.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering concepts.
  • Alignment with Convergent’s mission, values, and a strong interest in the Clean Energy Transition.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%, primarily for team events and company-wide meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in a relevant Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, etc.).
  • Experience operating battery energy storage systems, or operating/monitoring renewable or traditional generating facilities.
  • ITIL, NERC, or equivalent certifications.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
