Software Engineering Manager

Location: High Wycombe / Hybrid preferred, Remote (UK) considered

Term: Permanent, Full time

Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + excellent benefits

As we continue to focus on embedded software development and delivering high-quality, reliable products, we are hiring a new role to support our growing community of engineers working on embedded software for the Novation brand.

The Role:

As part of maturing our organizational structure, we are introducing additional Engineering Management capacity. This role will specifically support teams focused on the Novation brand. Depending on your experience, you will manage 2 or more teams (2-4 engineers per team, including QA), each comprising a balance of senior, mid-level, and junior engineers developing embedded software. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in shaping best practices, fostering a strong engineering culture, and collaborating closely with Product Owners and Technical Leads to balance quality, flow, and product delivery. This role reports to the Head of Software and works closely with other Engineering Managers and Leads.

How You’ll Support Your Teams:

• Manage the delivery capabilities and efficiency of your teams, championing good engineering practices.
• Collaborate with Product Management to ensure team priorities align with the Product Roadmap and Engineering Strategy.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams, providing context and support.
• Champion knowledge-sharing through documentation, team demos, and communities of practice.
• Guide engineer development through regular feedback, 1:1s, and career development conversations.
• Shape hiring practices to attract talent and improve onboarding processes.
• Ensure roadmap items are understood and have appropriate resourcing and skills.

What You Bring:

• Experience leading teams and fostering effective collaboration.
• Experience mentoring teams in Agile and DevOps environments.
• Passion for helping others achieve ambitious goals and advocating for technical excellence.
• A background as a senior software engineer with a strong grasp of embedded software development (C/C++), particularly on cost-sensitive product architectures.
• A love of music and ideally audio technology!
