Associate Director/Director, Medical Communications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director/Director, Medical Communications for the volixibat Portfolio Global Medical Affairs Team (GMAT) is a critical, high-accountability role reporting to the GMAT Lead. This position focuses on developing and executing GMAT materials and initiatives, including Field Medical Materials, Medical Advisory Boards, and Scientific Symposia/Medical Education programs. You will collaborate with external Medical Communications agencies and Medical Education partners to create timely, relevant, accurate, and engaging tools and programs supporting Mirum's scientific and medical objectives. You will also assist in managing the database of Medical Field tools, including updating, archiving, tracking, and strategic development of new tools based on GMAT needs. Effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders and external thought leaders in a fast-paced environment are essential.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure Medical Affairs initiatives and tactics are executed within agreed-upon timelines and budgets.
  • Organize scientific advisory boards and investigator meetings, including operational planning (contracting, FMV honoraria, venue, travel, accommodations), content development, and speaker preparation.
  • Plan and execute congress-related activities: session planning, KOL engagement, advocacy engagement, pre/post congress debriefs, daily debriefs, congress summaries, and educational/scientific booth activities.
  • Plan and execute scientific/medical education (non-CME) events, such as scientific symposia at congresses and web-based medical education, along with developing MSL materials (reactive and proactive).
  • Work with/support the VLX GMAL on all medical affairs-related activities and provide project tracker/status updates to the Mirum leadership team as needed.
  • Support commercial teams on various tactics, including Brand Plan and commercial materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate (RN, BS/BA, MS/MA, PharmD) level degree from an accredited university/program.
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably in Medical Affairs, MSL, and/or Medical Communications (agency or pharma).
  • Substantial understanding of liver disease or rare disease experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced computer and Internet skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Veeva Systems, PubMed, EndNote, Reference Manager). Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint is essential.
  • Ability to interact externally and internally to support global business strategy across assets and launches.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate scientific and medical activities with internal stakeholders (commercial, clinical operations, statistics, regulatory, publications, CMC) related to medical affairs projects.
  • Ability to represent Mirum at external meetings (investigator meetings, congresses, regulatory meetings, advisory boards, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Sound judgment within well-defined practices and policies.
  • Ability to manage budgets for assigned projects.
  • Clinical experience/research background or knowledge in liver diseases, pediatrics/neonatal care, cholestasis, or rare diseases is preferred.

Work Environment:

  • High growth, fast-paced organization.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (estimated 30% of work time).

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $200,000 - $230,000 USD

Compensation is determined by skill set, years of experience, and employee's geographic location. This reflects base salary only and excludes bonus, equity, or benefits unless otherwise stated.
