The Role: Head of Engineering

As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for the entire development organization, reporting directly to the management. Your role is to ensure stable product development while driving technological renewal. You will establish a strong engineering culture, lead transformation projects from legacy to SaaS & AI, ensure predictable releases, set architectural standards, and promote the innovative use of AI in engineering and product development.

Responsibilities

• Leadership & Engineering Culture: Establish a culture of clear responsibility, transparency, and ownership. Develop Team Leads through clear expectations, coaching, and feedback.
• Transformation (Legacy to SaaS & AI): Design the target architecture and manage a phased, realistic modernization process.
• Delivery & Reliability: Ensure predictable releases across legacy and new platforms through clear processes.
• Architecture & Quality: Implement binding architecture and engineering standards. Embed Quality, CI/CD, and Security-by-Design into the development process.
• Innovation & AI: Foster the targeted use of AI in engineering and product development.
• Collaboration & Interfaces: Work closely with management, product, sales, and other stakeholders, connecting strategy with execution.

Qualifications

• Languages: Fluent German and English.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of professional experience in engineering, with several years of leadership experience in software development, ideally in an ISV context.
• Transformation Projects: Proven experience in technological transformation projects (Legacy to Cloud/SaaS).
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of software architectures, CI/CD, DevOps, and Testing.
• Leadership Skills: Clear communication, decisiveness, and high execution energy.
• Nice to haves: Experience in cybersecurity companies, knowledge of multi-tenant architectures, basic understanding of AI/ML applications.
