In this Role, You Will

  • Lead "Big Rock" Projects: Drive significant initiatives across Smart Trailers and Connected Equipment teams based on business priorities.
  • Drive "Step Functions": Make major architectural and product capability leaps that enhance team effectiveness.
  • Think Like a Product Manager: Engage directly with customers in the field to understand pain points and develop solutions.
  • Ship at the "Speed of Thought" with AI: Lead the adoption of LLMs and AI to automate tasks and focus on high-level problem-solving.
  • Optimize Across the Stack: Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams on cross-cutting challenges, such as balancing real-time visibility with energy consumption.
  • Lead Without Ego: Mentor engineers in a high-ownership environment where the best idea prevails.
  • Advocate for Technical Health: Partner with Engineering Management to balance long-term technical health with customer wins.
  • Be a Cultural Force Multiplier: Champion Samsara’s core principles.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in software design and development, with at least 4 years in an architect or leadership role.
  • Technical Independence: Proactively define and execute technical direction.
  • Modern Engineering Workflow: Expert in writing high-quality, maintainable code and adept at using AI tools (e.g., Cursor, LLMs) to enhance productivity.
  • Cloud Scale Expertise: Proven experience with large-scale web services deployed on cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
  • Communication: Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex technical discussions.
  • "Founder-Engineer" Mindset: Experience building and scaling a 0-1 product from scratch.
  • Applied AI Power-User: Fully integrated AI-native workflows into your development process.

Ideal Candidate Also Has

  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience influencing product and infrastructure strategy at a corporate level.
  • Experience mentoring engineers in systems thinking, including lifecycles, edge cases, and failure modes.
