Software Engineer

PocketHealth🌍 Remote WorldwideEstimated: $80,000 - $120,000

✨ AI Insights & Summary

Are you a talented Software Engineer eager to make a tangible impact on the healthcare industry? PocketHealth is revolutionizing patient care by developing an AI automation platform, Conductor, designed to alleviate administrative burdens on healthcare providers. This role offers a unique chance to work on technically challenging projects with direct, human-centered outcomes, transforming freed-up resources back into patient care. If you're motivated by consequential work and a collaborative, hybrid environment, this is an exceptional opportunity to grow your career while improving healthcare for millions.

About PocketHealth

Healthcare faces immense pressure from burnout, staffing shortages, and underfunding, with administrative overhead consuming vital resources. PocketHealth is dedicated to changing this narrative. Our core product, the flagship imaging platform, grants patients secure access to their medical images and records, trusted by hundreds of hospitals and clinics across North America. Conductor, our AI automation platform, is engineered to relieve healthcare providers of administrative weight, enabling them to reinvest in patient care.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in bringing Conductor to life and ensuring its success. Collaborating closely with senior engineers, your team will own the entire lifecycle of client contracts, from initial coding and integration to extending agentic workflows and establishing robust infrastructure for reliable deployment in real-world provider environments. The impact of your work is immediate: automating processes directly translates into financial resources and staff time redirected to patient care. This position is a rare opportunity to engage in technically demanding, deeply human, and genuinely consequential work.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $135,000 annually, commensurate with your experience and expertise. Beyond salary, this role is eligible for equity through stock options and includes a comprehensive health and benefits package. PocketHealth views compensation as a total investment in your well-being, supporting both your professional and personal life.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in our Toronto office for deep collaboration. The remainder of your work can be performed remotely, allowing you to optimize your work-from-home setup.

What You'll Do

  • Support deployments end to end: Contribute to the full technical implementation of Conductor for each client, from kickoff through go-live. Write code, support integration scope, and build trust for long-term client relationships.
  • Build, integrate, and ship: Develop and extend agentic workflows within Conductor’s orchestration engine. Create custom tools, integration adapters, and transformation logic tailored to client needs, working across the full stack with Python and TypeScript backend services, healthcare provider integrations (HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM, RIS/PACS, EMR webhooks, scheduling software), and production-grade code.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues quickly: Provide technical escalation support during and after go-live, using logs, workflow state, and system telemetry to rapidly diagnose and fix code-level problems.
  • Shape how Conductor evolves: Translate client challenges into structured product feedback, identifying patterns across deployments that inform platform decisions and guide future development.
  • Strengthen the platform: Document successful practices, contribute to integration libraries, shared tooling, and deployment runbooks to enhance future deployment efficiency and platform capabilities.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Exposure to client-facing or production environments is a plus, but not required.

Technical Skills

  • Solid full-stack engineering fundamentals, comfortable with backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and integration layers.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, capable of writing clean, maintainable, production-quality code.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, or similar).
  • Experience building and debugging integrations with third-party APIs and data systems.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration engines (e.g., Step Functions, Cadence, Temporal, Prefect) is a strong plus.

Ways of Working

  • An engineer-first mindset, prioritizing building solutions over immediate escalation.
  • Fluent use of AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot) in daily engineering practices.
  • Thrives in environments where requirements are discovered through practical application.
  • Clear and natural communication with non-technical stakeholders while maintaining engineering precision.
  • High standards for both code quality and client outcomes.
