About the Team
The Billing and Subscriptions team at SumUp is at the core of merchant payment and management experiences. We own the billing engine, merchant wallet, and subscription functionalities that support millions of transactions across 37 markets. Currently, we are in an exciting phase of rebuilding and expanding this foundation to support new sales models, market expansions, and financial integrations, directly shaping how small businesses interact with SumUp.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain backend services and frontend interfaces for our billing, contracts, and merchant wallet products.
- Contribute to the refactoring of key billing components to enhance reliability, data security, and alignment with our broader payments platform.
- Support the expansion of our billing and wallet capabilities into new markets, ensuring localization requirements are met.
- Participate in a weekly support rotation, addressing customer queries and maintaining platform stability.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers and product managers to deliver features end-to-end, from implementation through to production.
Who You Are
- Solid experience building full-stack applications, with a backend focus. Ideally comfortable with Node.js or Go, though we are open to other backend languages.
- Comfortable working with both relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis).
- Practical frontend experience with React and Next.js, with the ability to write clean, typed code in TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, enabling clear, constructive feedback exchange.
- A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, capable of making sensible trade-offs, unblocking yourself and others, and writing clean, maintainable code.
