What We Are Looking For
Gearbox is seeking a Senior VFX Artist to create world-class special effects across all their titles. You will collaborate closely with the VFX Director, Art Directors, and Designers, pushing the technical boundaries of Unreal Engine 5, Xbox, and PlayStation. This role is open to VFX artists of all levels.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the visual effects team to design and implement impressive real-time particle systems.
- Develop sophisticated materials within Unreal Engine 5 for particle systems and world geometry.
- Create memory-efficient texture assets using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Substance Designer, Houdini, or Embergen.
- Produce basic 3D models, UV mapping, and simple animations as needed.
- Adhere to style and quality targets set by the Art Director.
- Work with the Technical Art Director and Lead Artist to establish and maintain production processes that respect technical constraints.
- Participate in discussions regarding visual effect implementation to convey gameplay concepts and achieve aesthetic objectives.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience as a VFX Artist in the video game industry.
- Shipped at least 2 multiplatform titles.
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine and Houdini.
- Experience with 3DS Max (or Maya), Substance Designer, and Photoshop.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A curious mindset and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
- Mastery of artistic concepts and common practices.
- Understanding of the technical limitations of console games.
- Good understanding of the general art pipeline in a game studio.
- Awareness of individual impact on performance and project frame rate objectives.
- Enthusiastic, positive, and team-oriented attitude.
