Sr. System Administrator (Remote)

About the Role

ECS is seeking an experienced Sr. System Administrator to provide remote scientific computing support for the NIH NIAID Enabling and Advancing Technologies (NEAT) contract. This role is integral to the Scientific Computing Services program area, which encompasses Program Management, Scientific Instrumentation Support, and High Performance Computing.

Please Note: This position is contingent upon contract win.

Key Responsibilities

The NIAID NEAT Sr. System Administrator will be responsible for day-to-day infrastructure sustainment activities across the scientific computing environment. Key duties include:

  • Supporting account provisioning, access control management, operational maintenance, software deployment, endpoint coordination, compliance documentation, and backup validation.
  • Supervising and managing daily activities related to the configuration and operation of systems (mainframe, mini, or client/server based).
  • Planning and monitoring system optimization for operation and resource utilization, including performing systems capacity analysis and planning.
  • Providing assistance to users in accessing and utilizing business systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Active Public Trust or higher security clearance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience supporting IT infrastructure, systems, and applications, including HPC environments, support teams, and ensuring quality of service operations.
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation and HPC, with knowledge of working within a scientific research organization, particularly in biomedical research.
  • Experience supporting commercial scientific instrumentation and its integration into a federal government IT environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting infrastructure sustainment activities, software deployment, and system configuration/operation.
  • Documented experience with FISMA and system authorization processes.
  • Practical experience with industry best practices (e.g., PMI, Lean IT, Agile, DevOps, ITIL).
  • Must reside within the Washington DC Metro area.
  • Ability to travel within the Washington DC Metro Area and CONUS as needed.
