Your Role as a Computer Vision Engineer

As a Computer Vision Engineer, you will be central to expanding Xsens' positioning and localization capabilities, evolving beyond inertial-only solutions to develop sophisticated visual-inertial systems. You will engage in research, prototyping, and deployment of algorithms for Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO), SLAM, and 6-DoF pose estimation, integrating Xsens' IMU technology with camera-based perception.

You will be part of the Technology team, reporting to the Technology Manager, and based in Enschede, the Netherlands, with hybrid work flexibility. Xsens actively utilizes Generative AI tools to enhance development, and you are expected to embrace and explore these tools within your workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement state-of-the-art VIO and SLAM pipelines, fusing inertial sensor data with monocular or stereo camera inputs.
  • Develop and maintain camera models, calibration routines, and sensor synchronization pipelines across various hardware configurations.
  • Apply optimization techniques and filtering methods to achieve robust and accurate 6-DoF pose estimation.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in the computer vision research landscape and assess the integration of new techniques into Xsens products.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to deliver complete perception solutions.

Requirements

Xsens seeks a hands-on Computer Vision Engineer with a strong theoretical background and a proven ability to build and deploy functional systems.

Required:

  • MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant industry or research experience; OR a PhD with demonstrated hands-on system-building experience.
  • Solid understanding of multi-view geometry, camera/lens models, and physics.
  • Hands-on experience with VO or SLAM systems and familiarity with open-source frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++.
  • Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra, probability theory, and state estimation.

Preferred:

  • Several years of experience in the automotive and/or robotics industry.
  • Experience with IMU signal processing and inertial sensor models.
  • Awareness of GPU-accelerated computing and experience optimizing algorithms for real-time performance.
  • Knowledge of deep learning-based perception methods.
  • Experience with ROS, OpenCV, and standard robotics tooling.
