Role: Staff Software Developer

The Incentives Development team at Varicent is dedicated to driving innovation and delivering a best-in-class user experience. The team combines deep technical expertise with creative problem-solving to continuously enhance the platform, focusing on quality, scalability, and performance. They are committed to building modern, reliable systems for the future.

As a Staff Software Developer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working on Varicent Incentives, a single-page web application developed with React and Redux, interacting with a C# REST API hosted on AWS.

What You'll Do

  • Develop new features for the REST API and enhance AWS infrastructure using C# and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and QA teams to deliver features and platform enhancements.
  • Participate in the pull request review process, ensuring high code quality and providing mentorship.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and responsiveness for large datasets.
  • Develop cloud-native features utilizing AWS services like Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and Redshift.
  • Automate deployments and CI/CD pipelines using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and platform reliability.

What You'll Bring

Technical Skills:

  • 7+ years of software development experience, with a focus on data-intensive applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., C#, Java, C++).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Redshift).
  • Understanding of ELT/ETL processes and large-scale data handling challenges.
  • Strong grasp of software design principles and engineering best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for building clean, scalable, maintainable solutions.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Strong English communication skills for effective collaboration in cross-functional teams.
  • B2-level English proficiency or higher.

Phased Onboarding

First 30 Days: Familiarize yourself with development processes, codebase, standards, and tools. Actively participate in team meetings, collaborate, and communicate progress and blockers. Complete well-defined tasks and bug fixes, demonstrating high-quality code.

First 60 Days: Increase independence in handling assignments, taking ownership of more complex tasks. Improve troubleshooting skills and consistently adhere to coding standards, producing maintainable code. Contribute valuable insights during team discussions.

First 90 Days: Lead the development of critical features or services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. Troubleshoot defects with minimal assistance, meet project deadlines, and demonstrate continuous learning. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to roadmap planning.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this role is $104,300 - $136,800 CAD. Individuals may be eligible for variable compensation. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and market conditions.
