About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Test Automation Engineer for a fully remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Data Management Program. This role is pivotal in developing automated tests, validating APIs and data workflows, and ensuring the overall quality and reliability of middleware platforms, enterprise applications, and integrated healthcare solutions. You will collaborate closely with developers, analysts, and quality leaders to enhance test coverage, boost release confidence, and improve software quality across the program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automated tests across API, data, middleware, and application layers.
  • Collaborate with software developers, analysts, and functional testers to design and execute comprehensive end-to-end testing solutions.
  • Design and execute test cases that align with functional and non-functional requirements outlined in user stories.
  • Perform data validation using SQL and other data analysis tools.
  • Create and maintain scalable automation frameworks for middleware, API, and data-layer testing.
  • Plan and execute regression testing activities in accordance with release and change management processes.
  • Provide accurate testing estimates and ensure testing activities adhere to project schedules and delivery milestones.
  • Troubleshoot software issues and contribute to root cause analysis efforts in partnership with delivery teams and business stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of enterprise testing strategies and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance testing efficiency, automation coverage, and overall quality outcomes.
  • Support team objectives and undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software testing and automation engineering.
  • Proven experience executing both manual and automated test scripts.
  • Strong background in API, middleware, integration, and data testing.
  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, TestNG, or comparable alternatives.
  • Solid knowledge of Jira for test management and defect tracking.
  • Familiarity with test automation practices within CI/CD pipeline environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with developers and technical teams in Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance.

Additional Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or other healthcare organizations.
  • Experience with tools like ReadyAPI, SoapUI, or Groovy scripting.
  • Proficiency in performance testing or regression testing.
  • Familiarity with AWS services including CloudWatch, Step Functions, Lambda, and canary validation techniques.
  • Experience working within Agile and DevSecOps delivery models.
  • Knowledge of accessibility testing practices and Section 508 compliance tools.
