Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Process Utilities Engineer to guide discipline-level execution across projects of varying size and complexity. This role is perfect for individuals who excel in a fast-paced, collaborative setting and are dedicated to delivering top-tier engineering solutions within the life sciences sector. As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing project budgets, coordinating with diverse stakeholders, and mentoring junior team members. You will play a crucial part in defining project outcomes from initial concept through commissioning, while also championing innovation and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead discipline design efforts and manage budgets for projects of all scales, from simple to highly complex.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on proposals, staffing plans, and project schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical documents, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Direct and mentor engineering support staff across multiple projects.
  • Deliver internal training presentations to enhance team capabilities.
  • Oversee or lead advanced design activities, including:
  • Utility room layout development
  • Pipe routing and space planning
  • Capacity planning and expansion strategy
  • Vendor package management
  • Risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs, HCCPs)
  • 3D model reviews and coordination
  • Site walkdowns and field reporting
  • Commissioning and startup support

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience for Lead-level candidates; 15+ years for Senior-level candidates.
  • Proven experience in design firms, operating companies, or construction environments.
  • Deep knowledge of industry codes, regulatory guidance, and local building standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience across diverse facility types and systems within the life sciences sector.
  • Robust technical network including clients, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Demonstrated success leading large or complex technical projects.
  • Advanced coordination skills across disciplines and with external stakeholders.
