Description & Requirements
MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position is fully remote within Virginia, with occasional travel required to Chesapeake or Norfolk, VA, for client meetings and events.
You will support Military Sealift Command (MSC) maintenance management and data development, ensuring the reliability of mission-critical platforms. This involves performing technical studies, failure investigations, and providing engineering recommendations for propulsion, auxiliary, and HVAC shipboard systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of technical and engineering studies, including economic analyses and failure investigations for preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Collaborate with ship's force to identify maintenance repair requirements and support shipyard availabilities with expert analysis.
- Develop Mechanical System Calculations and Schematics, including System Load Estimates and Pipe Sizing/Fluid Flow Calculations.
- Execute HVAC Calculations, Pressure Drop Calculations, and Thermostat & Reheat Design/Selection.
- Interpret ship's drawings and equipment technical manuals to develop comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Provide engineering recommendations for propulsion, shafting, and auxiliary shipboard systems to the Military Sealift Command (MSC).
- Utilize specialized software for modeling and equipment selection to meet complex marine design requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience with specialized vessels in one or more of the following areas: Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessels (T-EPF), Hospital Ships (T-AH), Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships (T-AKE), Underway Replenishment Oilers (T-AO), Cable Laying/Repair (T-ARC), Rescue/Salvage Ships (T-ARS), Submarine Tender (T-AS), Fleet Ocean Tugs (T-ATF), Command Ship (LCC), Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB), Fast Combat Support Vessels (T-AOE) or similar vessels.
- Experience with complex marine propulsion and auxiliary systems, with demonstrated expertise in propulsion system design.
- Experience performing pipe sizing, fluid flow calculations, and HVAC pressure drop models in a naval environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Pipe-Flo and/or ANSYS (or similar software), MathCAD, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
- Experience creating, maintaining, and communicating complex technical documentation and mechanical engineering studies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certification in maritime mechanical systems.
- Self-starter with excellent people skills, able to work across teams, organize meetings, and drive organizational change.
Clearance Requirements
- An active Secret clearance is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary 50% of the time.
- Occasional movement within the office environment.
- Ability to access file cabinets and climb ladder wells on vessels.
- Frequent communication with colleagues, management, and clients.
Compensation & Benefits
Projected Compensation Range: $70,200.00 - $117,000.00 annually.
Factors influencing final salary include contract wage determination, relevant experience, skills, competencies, geographic location, education, certifications, and Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
