Job Purpose
Provides engineering analysis and technical support to ensure the reliable interconnection of new generators to the company system in compliance with NERC Standards, company Protocols, Planning Guide, and Market Guides.
Job Summary
Performs electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the interconnection of new generation resources and the future planning of the electric power system. This includes implementing system modeling, developing tools and procedures for system studies, analyzing simulated or actual operating results, developing solutions for current or future system issues, and reporting findings and recommendations.
Analyzes the results of simulated power system studies, potentially comparing them to actual operating data to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs Powerflow studies to analyze the feasibility of proposed generation interconnections.
- Reviews interconnection applications for compliance with company Planning Guides, Protocols, and technical requirements.
- Identifies process improvements for interconnection study workflows, data management, and stakeholder communication.
- Communicates requirements and results to all internal and external stakeholders involved in the interconnection process.
- Tracks project milestones from study request through commercial operation, aligning with interconnection queue procedures.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Levels:
- Entry Level: Less than one year of experience beyond degree requirements in the electric utility industry.
- Level 2: 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry.
Preferred Experience
- Some experience within the electric utility industry.
- Experience running power system load flow studies in PSSE.
- Experience running transfer analysis systems studies.
- Ability to clearly communicate requirements and technical information.
- Ability to write technical reports detailing in-depth analysis.
- Experience with Python, VBA, or another programming language.
- Experience creating queries in Access, Oracle, or SQL.
- Experience using TARA.
Compensation
- The base pay range for this role is $42.30 - $59.15/hr.
