About the Role

We are seeking a Head of AEO/GEO (AI-Generated/Generative Engine Optimization) to spearhead Bankrate's search visibility strategy across traditional, AI-generated, and emerging discovery surfaces. This senior leadership position requires a seasoned professional who has built and scaled search functions end-to-end, from strategy and team development to channel execution and performance accountability. Reporting to the SVP Performance Marketing, you will oversee both our established SEO team and our growing AEO/GEO practice, translating search presence into measurable audience and revenue growth. You will be instrumental in defining Bankrate's strategy for the next era of search, building the necessary teams and systems, and establishing the institutional knowledge that will guide our presence wherever consumers seek financial information.

What You'll Do:

AEO/GEO Strategy (Primary Mandate)

• Define and drive Bankrate’s strategy for visibility in AI-generated answers, large language model citations, and emerging discovery surfaces, building frameworks and playbooks for dominance.
• Stay ahead of how platforms like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity surface financial content, developing a roadmap for winning visibility across each.
• Partner with editorial and content teams to ensure content is structured, cited, and authoritative for AI-generated answer inclusion.

SEO Team Leadership

• Lead Bankrate’s existing SEO function, maintaining traditional search dominance while evolving capabilities towards a unified AEO/GEO/SEO strategy.
• Ensure traditional SEO, AEO, and GEO reinforce each other, understanding the interplay between Google Search, AI Overviews, and LLM-based surfaces.
• Oversee technical SEO health, content strategy, and link authority programs, setting best-in-class operational standards.

Performance and Attribution

• Own reporting on organic traffic, share of voice, search rankings, AI citation rates, and downstream revenue impact, identifying key investment areas.
• Provide strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders, framing budget and resource needs in terms of incremental opportunity.

Team Leadership

• Manage and grow a high-performing search team, setting standards for talent, execution quality, and strategic thinking.

What We're Looking For:

• Proven search leadership experience (4+ years) in SEO, AEO/GEO, with a track record of building and scaling search functions.
• Deep understanding of AI-powered answer engines, LLM content citation, and generative search visibility.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the full SEO landscape (technical, content, authority signals).
• An AI-centric mindset, comfortable using AI tools and enabling teams.
• Strong executive presence, capable of articulating strategy and influencing senior leadership.
• A builder mentality, energized by defining new disciplines and bringing structure to ambiguity.

Nice To Have:

• Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with structured data, schema markup, and entity-based SEO.
• Proficiency with BI tools (Looker, Tableau).

Compensation

• Total Cash Compensation Range: $175,000 – $250,000 per year + equity
