✨ AI Insights & Summary
This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of building a critical internal Kubernetes platform for a major organization. As a Senior Cloud Native Architect, you'll tackle complex challenges in high-availability, 24/7-critical applications, focusing on architecture, security, and integration. This is a chance to make a significant impact by designing and prototyping a solution for exchanging operational data with external recipients, leveraging cutting-edge cloud-native technologies and contributing to a vital PoC project.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Native Architect for a Proof of Concept (PoC) project to realize an internal Kubernetes platform. The objective is to conceptualize and prototypically implement functionalities for providing operational data to external recipients, with a strong focus on architecture, security, and integration aspects for highly available, 24/7-critical applications.
Key Facts
- Start: 2026-07-01
- Duration: Not specified
- Utilization: 0%
- Location: Berlin, Germany
- Work Model: 95% remote, 5% on-site
Your Tasks
- Develop a shared understanding of the project's goals, scope, and expected outcomes.
- Analyze the framework conditions of the internal cloud-native Kubernetes platform concerning development, operation, security, and integration.
- Design a platform-compliant reference architecture for exchanging operational data between transmission system operators.
- Outline the solution design for highly scalable data exchange, handling up to approximately 100,000 information items per second.
- Consider requirements for high availability, scalability, observability (monitoring), and IT security for critical KRITIS applications.
- Define suitable integration patterns for data exchange between internal systems, platforms, and external partners.
- Conceptualize and prototypically implement data provision from existing sources.
- Establish the forwarding and distribution of data via event-based mechanisms like Apache Kafka.
- Design an architecture for receiving, processing, and distributing sensor data.
- Technically implement core functionalities and develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) as a reference implementation.
- Develop a pragmatic, iterative process model to identify necessary roles and competencies.
- Comprehensively document the chosen architecture, design decisions, technical implementation approaches, and create guidelines.
Must-Have Requirements
- Extensive experience in overall technical responsibility for .NET and Java-based applications in complex, distributed, and highly scalable system landscapes.
- Strong architectural competence in conceptualizing, evaluating, and managing scalable, highly available, and secure application and data architectures.
- Expertise in Big Data processing, particularly in the design and use of frameworks like Apache Spark (batch and streaming processing).
- Experience with processing very large data volumes (high throughput / high velocity), including performance optimization, resource management, and fault tolerance.
- Solid understanding of event-driven and data-driven architectures, including combining streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka) with Big Data processing frameworks.
- Proficiency with cloud and platform-native operating models, including containerized Big Data workloads on platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- German language proficiency at C2 level and English language proficiency at C1 level.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Experience in designing integrated data pipelines, from data ingestion (e.g., sensors, files, streams) through processing and enrichment to distribution.
- Experience in the secure design of data processing solutions for 24/7 KRITIS operations, including resilience, restart concepts, and monitoring.
- Proven responsibility for non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, data consistency, latency, and operational security.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into robust, future-proof data and application architectures.
- Strong communication and moderation skills for transparently representing architectural decisions, technical risks, and effort estimates to management and business departments.
- Demonstrated experience in structured documentation of architectural and technology decisions, especially for governance, audit, and compliance purposes.
- Proven SÜG (Ü2) clearance.
