Risk and Compliance Specialist (AML/CTF Focus)

About the Role

Axiom, a global leader in on-demand legal talent, is partnering with a respected fintech client to offer a significant secondment opportunity for a skilled Risk and Compliance professional. Based on the Gold Coast, this role is crucial for supporting a broad spectrum of regulatory, governance, and risk management activities, with a specialized focus on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) compliance. You will collaborate closely with the client's Legal, Risk, and Compliance team to bolster the organization's compliance framework and ensure adherence to diverse legislative and industry requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance the organization's AML/CTF compliance framework, including AUSTRAC obligations, customer due diligence, monitoring, risk assessments, and regulatory change implementation.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance across financial services, consumer, privacy, and marketing legislation, including the review of customer communications and business practices.
  • Contribute to risk, compliance, and governance activities, including compliance monitoring, incident and breach management, reporting, policy development, and audit support.
  • Support product governance, customer outcomes, regulatory reform initiatives, complex remediation programs, and broader compliance projects across the business.

Requirements

  • Experience in compliance, risk, legal, AML/CTF, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of Australian regulatory frameworks, including AML/CTF obligations, AUSTRAC requirements, financial services regulation, privacy, and consumer protection laws.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interpret and apply legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a practical and commercially focused approach to compliance.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, business, commerce, risk, compliance, or a related discipline; compliance, risk, or AML certifications will be highly regarded.
