Business Reporter
The Press & Journal, part of DC Thomson media and publishing, is seeking a dynamic Business Reporter to join our team in Aberdeen. This hybrid role (2 days in office per week) involves writing a compelling mix of news, features, and analysis that reflects the vibrant business community of the North and North-East of Scotland.
About the Role
As a Business Reporter, you will directly contribute to the performance of The Press and Journal portfolio by driving digital traffic, supporting subscriber value, and ensuring our business coverage accurately reflects the economic landscape. You will operate in a fast-moving, multi-platform news environment, accountable for originating, researching, and publishing engaging business stories that balance immediacy with insight. The focus is on human-centered storytelling, achievable inspiration, meaningful analysis, and timely reporting on issues affecting local businesses, employers, and communities, with a key emphasis on the energy market (Oil & Gas, Green Economy, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate, engaging, and digitally-optimized business journalism that drives audience growth, engagement, and subscriptions.
- Develop a pipeline of original business stories (approximately 1-2 quality stories per day), covering human interest, news, analysis, and success stories.
- Apply data and insight to story selection and headlines to improve digital performance.
- Build and maintain a strong network of business contacts across the region.
- Contribute to major editorial initiatives, such as the Fresh Start campaign.
- Uphold editorial standards, accuracy, balance, and ethical journalism at all times.

- Content Development: Ability to produce clear, engaging, and accurate editorial content across digital platforms.
