Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in solving intricate underground challenges. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you'll leverage your expertise and judgment to contribute to shaping the infrastructure around us, working alongside a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

About the Role

This position offers a hybrid work environment, with Tuesdays through Thursdays in the office and Mondays and Fridays designated for remote work. You will be instrumental in a wide range of underground and geotechnical projects, including tunnels, shafts, trenchless systems, and open-cut excavations, providing support from initial investigation through design and into construction.

What You’ll Do

  • Tackle Complex Underground Challenges: Apply geotechnical expertise to analyze subsurface conditions and support the design of various underground structures.
  • Lead Subsurface Investigations: Plan and participate in geotechnical investigations, including site selection for borings, reporting soil/rock conditions, and interpreting field data.
  • Develop Practical Solutions: Utilize boring logs, lab data, and field observations to create clear, defensible engineering recommendations.
  • Own Technical Deliverables: Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, data reports, and other essential technical documentation.
  • Engage in Field Work: Conduct site visits, construction observation, and inspections for underground structures and related infrastructure.
  • Support Full Project Lifecycle: Contribute to all project phases, including design support and construction coordination (RFIs, submittals, field communication).
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, surveyors, and designers to develop well-coordinated solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota (or ability to obtain).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a Geotechnical emphasis preferred.
  • 4 to 15 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Experience with underground design, trenchless methods, or tunneling projects.
  • Strong background in subsurface investigations, soil borings, and geotechnical report development.
  • Experience with open-cut excavations, slope stability, and earthwork design.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Experience supporting construction-phase services, field investigations, or construction observation.
  • Familiarity with trenchless construction methods (e.g., microtunneling, HDD, auger boring).
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development.

Compensation

  • $88,500 - $134,000 per year (Salary range reflects base pay for 4-15 years of experience; compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities).
