About the Programme

• Start Date: September 2026
• Length: 12 months, followed by application for internal positions

Join hx as part of a cohort of 8 graduates within our technical teams, including Product Engineering, AI, Model Development, Platform, and Security. Placements will be tailored to business needs and individual strengths, embedding you within a team while offering structured exposure to other departments like Customer teams and Central Functions. This programme is designed to build your technical confidence, product understanding, and commercial awareness. You will also complete our Model Development certification, deepening your insight into the insurance, modelling, and pricing context of our work.

You'll receive comprehensive support from experienced engineers and technical leaders, a dedicated mentor, learning and development resources, and the camaraderie of your graduate cohort. The programme aims to lay the foundation for your long-term career growth at hx, with opportunities for full-time roles post-completion.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop real technical solutions for customer and internal challenges, such as workflow automation, AI-driven process improvements, feature development, and internal efficiency tools.
• Build foundational knowledge of hx's platform and products, understanding insurance pricing and underwriting systems, AI agent operations, and rapid software delivery.
• Gain commercial context by collaborating with customer-facing teams to understand how product decisions are influenced by customer needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, AI, and Operations teams, experiencing cross-functional synergy and identifying areas where your interests and strengths align.
• Complete a final programme project demonstrating applied learning and problem-solving, showcasing technical and commercial skills.
• Develop confidence in ambiguous environments, balancing quality, speed, and customer impact while cultivating self-discipline and judgment.

What You'll Need to Have Done

• Demonstrated strong technical foundations in Python, with practical experience in data analysis, automation, or project work showcasing problem-solving abilities.
• Shown curiosity in AI and automation through experimentation with LLMs, machine learning, AI-assisted development, or personal projects.
• Exhibited initiative beyond academics, such as internships, personal technical projects, hackathons, teaching, leadership roles, or open-source contributions.
• Proven ability to break down technical problems and experiment with solutions, displaying a persistent problem-solving mindset.
• Clear communication of technical concepts, evidenced through coursework, project documentation, or collaborative work.
• Taken ownership of outcomes, demonstrating project completion, proactive improvement identification, or accountability for results.
• A range of technical and quantitative degree backgrounds are welcome, including Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or similar fields emphasizing analytical and problem-solving skills.

You’re Unlikely to Thrive Here If

• You prefer highly structured environments with predefined tasks over tackling ambiguous problems independently.
• You lack interest in understanding business operations beyond your immediate technical scope or collaborating across teams.
• You are uncomfortable engaging deeply with technical topics like data, AI, or software engineering, or lack curiosity to develop these skills.

Compensation

• Salary: £40,000 per year
• Additional Compensation: Access to mentorship, learning and development support, and hx’s learning and development budget.
