About the Role

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Partnerships Manager (all genders) for our Software Engineering Department. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about fostering relationships with institutions and communities involved with Wikidata and Wikibase. The position operates on a hybrid model, requiring regular presence in our Berlin office.

Responsibilities

The Software Communications team acts as a liaison between the software development department and Wikimedia communities for Wikidata, Wikibase, and Technical Wishes. As a Partnerships Manager, you will be the primary contact and relationship manager for partners in these projects, fostering communication with organizations outside the Wikimedia ecosystem and promoting Wikibase and Wikidata to broader audiences.

  • Manage global relationships with cultural heritage and knowledge institutions (including GLAMs), science and research partners, and other organizations working with Wikibase/Wikidata projects.
  • Support outreach and community engagement for Wikibase and Wikidata by attending events, spreading awareness, and developing new contacts in collaboration with the Software Communications Team.
  • Organize, establish, and/or run Wikidata and Wikibase educational workshops and trainings for partners and communities.
  • Clearly explain the functions and uses of Wikibase/Wikidata to diverse online and offline communities, gathering feedback.
  • Actively support Software Communications Team members across roles, providing practical assistance as needed.
  • Embrace and foster diversity within your team and communities.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and networking skills, with a proven ability to partner with institutions, communities, and organizations, and manage relationships within the Wikibase and Wikidata communities.
  • Good understanding of the cultural sector and the science/research domain, with an interest in working closely with cultural heritage and knowledge institutions (including GLAMs).
  • Awareness of knowledge equity principles and experience working with open knowledge communities. Ideally, an understanding of databases, digital networks, and Free Knowledge principles.
  • Skilled educator with strong presentation abilities for live presentations, training, workshops, and events. Prepared to travel domestically and internationally (approx. 20 days per year).
  • Genuine enjoyment in deep-diving into topics and sharing knowledge.
  • Perceived as friendly, open-minded, honest, and engaging, with clear and inclusive communication across diverse audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good knowledge of German or willingness to learn.
